Some key points: - As many as 5.3 million Americans currently live with Alzheimer's, and the number is expected to nearly double every 20 years to over 115 million by 2050. - Alzheimer's is the seventh leading cause of death and triples healthcare costs for those over 65. - The financial costs of Alzheimer's and other dementias to Medicare, Medicaid and businesses amount to over $148 billion annually.

The meaning of EPIDEMIC (from Greek epi- upon + demos people) occurs when new
cases of a certain disease, in a given human population, and during a given period,
substantially exceed what is "expected," based on recent experience. In recent usages,
the disease is not required to be communicable; examples include cancer or heart
disease. Another example includes the infamous Black Plague of the Middle Ages.
I WOULD CALL THIS AN EPIDEMIC OF EPIC PORPORTIONS!

THE MEMORY WALK!!
Memory Walk is the nation's largest event to raise awareness
and funds for Alzheimer care, support and research – and it
calls on people of all ages to take action in the fight. Year-round, our
participants are involved in efforts to help defeat this devastating disease.

5. 1. Sign up for the walk by finding a team in your area or better yet start
a team of your own. If you go to alz.org/memorywalk and put in your
zip code. You will then get the details of the walk nearest you. If you
don’t have internet and live in the Richmond area then call 804-967-
2547 to register.
2. Form your team! Participating in Memory Walk is even more fun with
a group. Ask your co-workers, family and friends to walk as a team.
You'll be amazed at how many people you know whose lives have been
changed by Alzheimer's.
3. Fundraise. Every Memory Walk participant is asked to raise money for
the fight against Alzheimer's. Alzheimer's Association staff are ready
to support you every step of the way with tips, tools and advice.
4. Get Creative. Raise money with our online tools, hold a fundraising
event or ask for a donation when you're face-to-face.
5. Walk! Memory Walk is a unique experience. See the difference you
can make as we walk to change the course of Alzheimer’s together.

6. •Alzheimer’s disease can have a big impact on every member of the
family. There are many families who have loved ones living with this
disease.
•Many teenagers are helping their parents take care of their grandparents
in the home-afterschool. I know this because I am one of them. My Papa
lives with my Mom and I, he was diagnosed with Dementia in 2007.
•This disease knows no boundaries, rich, poor, old, young, black, white
everyone you know and love (your mom, dad, brother, sister,
grandparents) may be the next victim of this horrible brain disease.
•We have to work together to change the world. One person can not do it
alone. It takes all types of people to make the world go around and for
some of these people the world has stopped because of this disease.
•Just ask anyone and they probably know someone or has some way been
effected by this disease.

7. You can call him friend, man, sir, boss, officer, Sailor, Vietnam Veteran, son, grandson, great
grandson, dad, stepdad, grandfather, step grandfather, husband, uncle, brother, great
grandfather, great uncle, cousin, son in law, brother in law, father in law, Charles, Chuck,
Buddy or countless other names and the only one he will answer to is
PAPA!!
