The author chose to research AIDS because they are involved in a group that raises awareness and funds for HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment. While some things were already known, like AIDS being the second leading killer, many in Africa lack education about what AIDS is and how it is transmitted. Stopping the AIDS epidemic in Africa will require addressing its social causes and changing unacceptable social behaviors and norms.
