My opening keynote from Accessibility Camp Boston 2012 - where I talked about Accessibility, Design, Innovation and using accessibility as a design tool to make designs better for everyone, whether they have a disability or not.
Presented at FITC Toronto 2016
See details at www.fitc.ca
Overview
Designer passes comp to developer. Developer develops. Project done. Unfortunately, this traditional ‘waterfall’ approach is riddled with missed opportunities. Given the complexity of our web projects today, collaborative workflows can dramatically increase the efficiency and quality of the final product.
In this session, Maya Bruck will share concrete tools and techniques she has used to make all members of the team (including clients!) active participants instead of passive recipients. All while having a lot more fun in the process.
Objective
Learn tools and techniques for engaging the full breadth of your team in the creative process, turning research, prototyping, design and development into a collaborative and highly effective effort.
Target Audience
Designers, developers, project managers
Takeaways
Engage clients and the full breadth of your team from the beginning of the process.
Turn research, sketching, prototyping and beyond into a collaborative effort.
Discover missed opportunities in the traditional web design workflow.

„Wicked Problems” are problems that are difficult or impossible to solve because of incomplete, contradictory, and changing requirements that are often difficult to recognize. In addition, complex interdependencies make it so that the effort to solve one aspect of a wicked problem may reveal or create other problems. Content managers must face these sorts of problems flexibly.
Nemetics is a methodology developed by a process engineer in India based on NEME, a play on the term MEME, and an acronym for Notice, Engage, Mull, Exchange. It is also an attitude, a way of seeing, and a way of collaborating.
It is not about tools and techniques, but flexible ways to move and develop our faculties of
Seeing (Notice),
Feeling (Engage),
Thinking (Mull),
Doing (Exchange),
It is a kind of complexity science, based on studying interactions between:
the events that take place around us,
the behaviours of human beings and of systems that initiate any event, and the intentions and beliefs that lead to particular behaviours
We’ll look at how to apply this specifically to wicked problems in the content industries, through two examples:
applying Nemetics to User Assistance
applying Nemetics to a complex technological relationship: interaction between Internet of Things, Human Bionics, and Augmented Reality
