GDG Cloud Southlake #33: Boule & Rebala: Effective AppSec in SDLC using Deplo...James Anderson
Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.
JMeter webinar - integration with InfluxDB and GrafanaRTTS

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

pbslearningmedia.org/content/lsps07.sci.life.evo.frozenfrogs/ In this video adapted from NOVA scienceNOW, learn how the common wood frog survives the cold winter. Wood frogs are found in the northern United States and Canada and must endure freezing cold temperatures for parts of the year. In order to survive the cold, they have a special adaptation—they are able to freeze solid without damaging their cells. Sugar acts like a natural antifreeze in their bodies, allowing them to spend the winter frozen and then resume function in the spring.
www.pbslearningmedia.org/content/lsps07.sci.life.stru.bodysystems/ In this interactive activity from Kinetic City, Arnold is missing all of his organ systems. The organs of the human body are critical for maintaining conditions that are necessary for life, and must operate in concert with each other to do their jobs. Help Arnold identify these important organ systems and put them back into his body where they belong.
Sandra Bustamante This video produced for Teachers' Domain reveals how Sandra Bustamante, a research assistant in the Boston University School of Public Health, got her start in biotechnology. Sandra, whose collaborative work with nanoparticles aims to deliver vaccines into the human body without breaking the skin, fell in love with science during a free certificate program in Boston, Massachusetts, called CityLab. The video details not only Sandra's cutting-edge research work but also the qualities she has demonstrated that have helped her excel in her field—namely, a desire to learn and a curiosity about how things work.

An exciting suite of Election 2012 resources for LM coming in August. Here's an overview of what we're planning to create: Election 2012 Collection on PBS LearningMedia The Election 2012 Collection will be THE destination for election-related educational content from PBS. The page will offer a curated collection of relevant videos, interactives and lesson plans from the PBS LearningMedia repository, including an updated version of 2008’s Access, Analyze, Act: A Blueprint for Civic Engagement curriculum as well as contextualized purpose-built clips from FRONTLINE’s The Choice 2012 and new educational resources from NewsHour. The page will also feature links to related content, such as locally produced learning resources and civics games created as part of CPB’s American History and Civics Initiative. Teachers and students will be able to access breaking election news through the Newscast to Schools module (described in detail below) and be invited to explore and analyze data through an embedded version of the NewsHour Digital Map Center. Election 2012 Newscast to Schools PBS LearningMedia will offer a national Election 2012 news feed. The feed will feature the latest breaking election-related news stories from national producers, including NewsHour, FRONTLINE, and Need to Know, tailored for the K-12 audience. Stations will be offered a module that can reside within their locally branded PBS LearningMedia services and will have the ability to publish their own locally produced election-related content within their LM services; the best, most relevant local content will potentially become part of the national feed. The module will initially be branded to feature Election 2012-related content, but beyond the election stations will be able to use it to promote other nationally and locally produced current events content for teachers and students. Multimedia Presidential Election Primer Drawing on the talents of PBS "stars," from Ruff Ruffman to Jim Lehrer, and incorporating engaging design and humor, we will produce an illuminating (and evergreen) multimedia glossary of 15-20 terms that offers kid-friendly explanations of election-related terms, focusing on their meaning and the ways in which they're relevant to students’ lives. We will draw on key terms in the primer to build a quiz app that will test students’ – and the general audience’s – knowledge of election-related topics. This quiz will help promote PBS Education’s Election 2012 suite of resources and has great potential to go viral. We are very excited to work with our stations and producer community in developing new content and with the broader LM team to build out new functionality and promote our exciting new offerings!
