"Why do we need to learn this?" is a common ELA classroom question. By going into the community and interviewing different careers, students are able to see the importance of reading and writing, which then provides motivation for more active learning. This presentation discusses the importance of role models in the classroom and what they can do for your students.

Interview and Summary
This interview assignment is a summary of John Brooks, (not his real name. The name has been changed to ensure confidentiality and maintain privacy) and his problem of lack of motivation that he has been facing in his academics. Brooks is a student taking a bachelor's degree course in commerce. Apparently, has been trying to raise his academic GPA point average to four points without much success. So far, John Brooks has a 3.0 GPA point average. Since he joined this university in the first year, John had been scoring a perfect 4.0 GPA point averages. However, when he entered his third year, he started losing motivation to academic work and as a result, his GPA point average has suffered greatly.
Brooks’ problem started when he lost his only brother in a road accident, a situation he has taken all the blame because he says he was supposed to take care of his brother like he always did since they were little. Brooks started losing interest in academics shortly after resuming classes after the burial of his brother.
One of the effects of decreased motivation that has affected Brooks is that he skive most classes. Sometimes in the past, whenever he turned up for lectures, he realized he could not concentrate till the end of that lecture session.
Sometimes, he could turn up for class only to realize they are doing a scheduled assessment test. Sometimes, he could learn that they are supposed to turn in a class assignment when it is almost too late. During such situations, he could do the assignment hurriedly just to beat the deadline. When it is the end of semester exams, he realizes he has not covered most of the course syllabus and that he is not prepared enough to tackle exams. However, he often manages to score average grades but he believes he can do better had he the right motivation.
Brooks has realized that his situation is a problem that needs immediate action. He has made several attempts to regain his motivation. Some of those attempts have borne fruits but it has been short-term successes and in some course units. He knows some students in his class who have perfect point averages. So, he has made attempts to study with them in groups and do group assignments with them. Some of these group discussions have really worked to not only improve his motivation, but also his grades. However, his efforts have not achieved his goal of raising his GPA point average to four points.
More than once, he has “set goals” (Laureate Education (Producer), 2011) to be achieved in particular subjects which he is studying in a particular semester. He had made a rule that whenever he achieves even one of the goals in each subject, he could reward himself with an incentive. However, whenever he does not achieve a particular goal, he feels really helpless and any m ...

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
