Trevor, an 11-year-old student, is asked by his social studies teacher Mr. Eugene Simonet to do a project to change the world. Trevor decides to help strangers by doing big favors for them without asking for anything in return, but instead asking them to "pay it forward" by helping others. Trevor's first act is bringing homeless drug addict Jerry to his house and giving him food and money. As people pay the favors forward, a movement grows, including reporter Chris Chandler who decides to follow it after receiving an unexpected gift himself.
