• Review of the 2nd pan European Timeshare Directive: responding to
consultations, providing data & statistics, hosting workshops
• Claims working group established to examine the activities of non-
regulated companies that exploit consumers
• Complaints filed about Google ads
• Meetings to be held with the MOJ, Banks & Financial
Ombudsman Service

• RDO Board signed off new Exit Strategy November 2014
• RDO Enforcement & the Timeshare Task Force (backed by
TATOC & RDO) working to have fraudulent/deceptive
companies investigated by the authorities & closed down
• Complaints from consumers addressed & in some cases,
refunds provided

• Successful RDO5 conference took place in London

Main Challenges
• Some European countries still in recession, impacting on the
industry
• Products need to be adapted to target a younger demographic
• Increasing numbers of claims companies targeting owners & the
industry
• Continued focus by media & legislators on long-term perpetuity
contracts & the perceived lack of exit routes for legacy owners

2015 Priorities
• Timeshare Directive review process to continue
• CMA report recommending consideration of a legal right to
exit to be reviewed by the UK government:
• RDO will continue to focus on tightening up on its
Code of Conduct in terms of surrenders
• New RDO policies adopted to be promoted to
legislators & the media, demonstrating our
commitment to looking after owners

• Continue developing the relationship with TATOC
• Pursue the major fraudsters, resulting in prosecutions
• Launch a sales accreditation scheme
• Conduct a KPI analysis of our members
• Ensure the industry’s properly represented at the German
parliament (the Bundestag)

• Hold a seminar in Tenerife to educate the hotel sector about the
timeshare industry
• Launch an integrated social, digital & media campaign to
promote the positives of timeshare holidays and get not only the
industry but also owners actively engaged in it
