2. What is Patient Confidentiality
Patient confidentiality means that personal and
or medical information given to a health care
provider will not be disclosed to others unless
the patient has given informed consent.
3. What is breach of confidentiality?
A breach of confidentiality is a iscloure to a
third party , without patient consent or court
order, of private information that the physician
has learned within the patient-physician
relationship.

Disclosure can be oral or written, by telephone
or fax, or electronically, for example, via e-mail
or health information networks.
Viewing of patient records when not authorized.

HIPAA Privacy
HIPPA Privacy Rule requires appropriate
safeguards to protect the privacy of personal
health information, and set limits and
conditions on the uses and disclosures that
may be made of such information without
patient authorization
6. Employee's Responsibilites
Employees must accept training and
demonstrate full knowledge of the HIPAA law.
They must show sensitivity to patients and their
information by treating all materials securely
and with complete confidentiality.
7. Health Care Organizations
Responsiblity
To provide on going training regarding patient
confidentiality.
Provide written materials such as news letter
which will provide information on HIPAA
changes.
Provide all employees with training packet
regarding the organization's HIPAA privacy
rules and procedures
