The International Passive House Conference in Aachen, Germany showed how current construction practices can be made more energy efficient to prepare for the future. Passive House technology was demonstrated to significantly reduce energy consumption in buildings, which account for over a third of total energy use in industrialized nations. Six buildings and one district received the 2014 Passive House Award for exemplifying the Passive House concept. A new planning tool called designPH was also introduced to help architects and designers optimize building designs to meet Passive House standards. The conference highlighted that the Passive House standard can cut energy use by up to 90% while being economically attractive and contributing to climate protection goals.
