Participating in
Community Concerns
How often do you participate in school and
community projects?
Participating in worthwhile school and community
activities makes us responsible citizens. What happens if
we do not participate? What if everyone simply does
not care?
Tapat Ko,
Linis Ko
Tapat Ko, Linis Ko
Nicole belonged to a community that cares little about cleanliness,
where people throw garbage anywhere. One day, Mr. Castro, the
barangay chairman, encouraged the youth to participate in the cleanliness
campaign called “Tapat Ko, Linis Ko.” The chairman urged the people to
dispose their own garbage properly. The “Tapat Ko, Linis Ko” project
explained the duties of each member of the barangay and the importance
of cleanliness. He also reminded everyone to prepare for the rainy days
and
typhoons. All canals and esteros were cleaned thoroughly to set an
example. By this way, floods can be lessened, if not eliminated.
Nicole and her family did not join the said campaign. They continued to
throw garbage anywhere. The rainy days came. Just as expected, the streets
were flooded and many properties were destroyed. Nicole realized that, if
only she and her family had supported the campaign for cleanliness, the
situation might not have been that bad. She told herself that, next time,
they will participate.
1. Describe the community where Nicole
belongs to.
2. What was the name of the community
project?
3. Who encourage the whole barangay to
participate in the cleanliness project?
4. Did everyone participate? If no, write who
did not participate?
5. What lesson did Nicole learn?
Participating in worthwhile school and
community activities is a form of showing concern
for all members of the community.
Examples of school and community projects are:
1. “Tapat Ko, Linis Ko” cleanliness campaign
2. Drug- free Zone
3. “Build-a-House for Humanity”
The cleanliness campaign can be
initiated by any class or organization in
the school willing to rally other pupils
to start the drive by keeping in school
and its surroundings clean.
These activities aim to make the world a better
place to live in.
