1. It finally happened.
What happened master?
The seal. The one to keep them away started to crack.
But-t master, that seal was made to keep them in for eternity.
No it wasn't. It was made as a last effort in order to postpone the inevitable.
We need to act quickly!
Inform all the remaining Sentinels of this. Tell them to meet me at Raven's Peak
three days from now!
Your request shall be fulfilled.
As the door closed behind Ze'xil he began searching for something. Papers
written in weird languages, scrolls and inked feathers began to fly across the
room, but despite all the mess he found what he was searching for. A small
mirror. He took off his mantle and searched for something on his skin. His skin
however was different. It was covered by thousands of marking. Among the
hundreds of markings one was glowing.
It seems like you haven't vanished yet. Said Ze'xil to himself. There seems to
be enough time for me to strengthen the seal, even by the smallest amount.
Ze'xil grabbed his sea colored mantle and put it on. His ash gray hair got
caught underneath it so he pulled it out. As he was pulling it out one strand of
hair got caught in his fingers.
It seems my time is coming as well. I just hope it won't arrive too soon.
He put the strand away and sat down over his desk. He grabbed a notebook which
on it's cover said: Sentinels.
Now let's see how many of them are left. Said Ze'xil as he opened the book
Deceased, deceased, deceased deceased, deceased, deceased. Here's someone who is
still among us, Lillith. Didn't expect her to last this long. As he said that a
smile appeared in the corner of his lip. He continued his search trough the
notebook and when he was finished he had a list of ten names.
Oh, how few of us remained. Lillith, Rayuo, Maldrex, Zavien, Aranil, Xerin,
Qastin, Fastima, Weyrat and Vi'den.
Out of our great army only eleven of us remain, but I must not lose hope. If I
remember correctly all of them we're blest with children. Maybe they can end
what we couldn't. It's a heavy burden to bear, but if they're anything like
their parents, they can do it.
He picked up the strain of hair that he pulled out earlier, right then the
marking over his left eye started to glow.
I bestow on you everything my eyes saw.
The strand of hair changed it's color to ruby red, the same color as his eyes.
He placed the strain of hair inside of a small wooden box that was laying next
to the notebook.
Tewen'dir come here for a moment. Ze'xil said as the marking on his neck glowed.
You called master?
I see you've informed The Sentinels by now.
How do you know master?
Ze'xil pointed at Tewen'dir's forehead.
It's still glowing.
In the left corner of Tewen'dir's forehead a marking was glowing brightly white.
Oh right. I still haven't mastered this marking yet. But never mind that. What
did you call me about?
Would you keep this safe for me? Said Ze'xil as he offered him the box that
contained the strain of hair.
Why of course I would. May I as what foes the box contain?
It contains something important. Let's just keep it at that.
All right my master. I'll keep good care of it. Said Tewen'dir as he placed the
box inside if his moss green mantle. Do you require anything else from me?
Nothing at the moment.
As Tewen'dir was leaving the room Ze'xil reminded him of one more thing.
Tewen'dir, do not try to open that box. I placed a marking on it. When the time
is right you will find out what's inside.
Tewen'dir blushed and slowly left the room. The secret of the box still teasing
his mind.
That boy will never learn. Said Ze'xil as he chuckled on the thought of
Tewen'dir's curiosity.
2. Ze'xil looked over the notebook once again. The memory of all the deceased
people filled his heart with sadness. All of those people died to protect The
Realm of Men, but Men will never appreciate their sacrifice. To them there is no
difference between The Awoken and The Sentinels, despite the fact that they had
different goals from the beginning. The Awoken wanted to rule The Realm of Men
and began their conquest by sending a small group of their own to scout the
lands. When the scouts returned they informed them that Men were no threat to
their goal and with that information they sent an army. The army's biggest
advantage were their markings, the same type of markings Ze'xil had. These
markings gave The Awoken increasable powers and abilities. Their powers varied
from summoning weapons out of thin aur to mind control and even manipulating the
elements. But not all of The Awoken approved the actions of their kin. A small
group of them stood up against them and joined Men in order to stop the
invasion. That group would later be known as The Sentinels. Ze'xil was one of
the commanders who fought against The Awoken in order to stop them. Although
powerful they could not defeat all of them so they hatched a plan to in prison
them. Their plan was to in prison The Awoken inside of The Realm which they came
from. They would accomplish this by creating a special marking that would force
any Awoken to be instantly transported into their realm. The Sentinels, although
being Awoken, were not affected by it because Ze'xil and a few others placed the
marking of the seal onto them. Luckily their plan worked and The Awoken were
sealed inside their Realm. The Sentinels how ever were locked out from the Realm
they once called home and had to start anew in The Realm of Men. Most of them
struggled to fit in, the markings they shared were forever burned inside the
minds of Men as a sign of The Awoken and Men wanted no business with such
creatures. Luckily they managed to find a way to hide the markings by creating
another marking which hid all others. That marking was bestowed on the base of
their foot, so no one could see. With that The Sentinels could interact with Men
as freely as they wanted, some of them even got married to Men and had children
with them, but not all Sentinels were eager to hide who they were. Some of them
refused the marking believing that Men should be grateful for what they done for
them and that hiding their markings would be an act of shame. Not wanting
another war Ze'xil offered them a resting place in a remote part of The Realm of
Men. The Sentinels could rebuild their civilization there and live in peace. The
Sentinels agreed to this knowing that starting another war would mean turning
the weapon on more of their kin.
We brought them peace once, will we be able to keep it? Pondered Ze'xil. Will we
be able to once again recognize the true enemy and not go against the peace we
kept among ourselves? I hope we can.
With that said Ze'xil laid on his bed and took one last look outside his window.
He saw an endless sea of trees, some small some big. With yellow, green and red
leaves. Even further beyond the trees he saw a lake. On the surface of that lake
the stars looked like tiny dancers as a frog caused the surface to move. And
beyond that lake he saw a castle. An enormous one, with light as bright as the
Sun. The towers of thr castle made even the mountains jealous as they went
higher and higher reaching just below the night sky.
I remember when that castle was just one brick. One brick, as white as the Moon,
but as always Zavien kept his word and created something beautiful.
Ze'xil smiled and turned to the other side of the bed. His room lighten only by
the night sky and the light of the marking on his back. The marking of the seal
which would brake.
