2. Parkinson's disease is an
irreversible, neurodegenerative
condition characterized by
bradykinesia, rigidity, resting
tremor, and postural instability,
stemming from the loss of
dopaminergic neurons in the
substantia nigra pars compacta.
What is the Parkinson Disease ?
3. • It is particularly prevalent after the
age of 60, with an incidence rate of
approximately 1%.
4. • Most studies have indicated
that Parkinson's disease is
protective against many types
of cancer, but recent research
has shown that brain tumors
have higher morbidity among
patients with Parkinson's
disease, leading to a
contradiction.
5. According to a meta-analysis study, analyses based on temporal relationship
indicated that the occurrence of brain tumors was significantly higher after
the diagnosis of PD, but not statistically significant before PD diagnosis,
suggesting that Parkinson's disease increases the risk of brain tumor.
6. • Gender, race, subgroup analysis,
tumor type (benign or malignant), or
ethnicity differences did not show
significant effects on the relationship
between brain tumor and PD.
7. • This meta-analysis suggests a
moderate association between PD
and the occurrence of brain
tumors. However, the influence of
anti-Parkinson drugs and biases
in the selected articles cannot be
excluded, so larger sample sizes
and studies with accurate
diagnoses should be conducted in
the future to address this issue.
8. • Another purpose of conducting
these studies is to better understand
the pathology of Parkinson's disease
and to be able to treat it effectively.
By preventing Parkinson's disease,
the frequency of occurrence of brain
tumors can also be reduced.
