The Morning Routine What Can You Do To Make Sure Your Child is Prepared?
Daily Nutrition Eat a good breakfast Cafeteria serves a balanced breakfast every morning. For breakfast, be here at 7:30 Lunch Boxes No canned or carbonated drinks Pack a well balanced lunch Please be conscientious of our peanut allergies!
More morning routine… Please be here by 8:00 Resource begins at 8:10 What do I need to do with important notes and such? Send everything you want your child’s teacher to see in your child’s homework folder.
Money Matters Please label all money Snacks Snack increase from 50 to 60 cents School choices are ice cream or lemonade Student may bring a healthy snack from home
Math Program Houghton Mifflin Calendar time Hands on instruction Overhead instruction Student workbook pages Student math journal Computer games Homework sent as needed
What about Social Studies and Science??? We will follow GPS (Georgia Performance Standards) for Social Studies and Science Both curriculums are integrated through.. Hands on activities Readings  Learning workshop centers
Reading is what it’s all about! Five Important Areas Phonemic awareness Phonics Instruction Fluency Vocabulary Comprehension
Open Court Reading Decodables Includes words your child can sound out and vocabulary words your child studies each night Text your child should be able to read on their own Have your child point to each word they read Send book back to school the next day
Supplemental Readng Reading is Fun!  We encourage our children to check out books from the library or their classroom.  Pizza Hut “Book It” program Six Flags tickets Reading books of choice helps to foster a child’s love for reading and is essential for building fluency!
Homework Folder Look at homework folder nightly Build your child’s responsibility, have them pack their book bags every night. Please make sure homework folder is sent back to school each day.
Resource P.E. Teachers are Mrs. Bonnie Sims and Mrs. Mandy McKnight Please have your child wear tennis shoes Music Ms. Thrower will teach the music classes. Computer Lab Your child will receive instruction during computer lab by either: Mrs. Crawford, Mrs. Roberson, or Mrs. McDade.
Report Cards Report cards go home every nine weeks  Grades are recorded and averaged in these areas: Reading Spelling Language Math In addition they will also receive a handwriting grade
Playground Safety Please wear tennis shoes Flip flops, sandals, or high heel shoes are not safe on the playground. Things that could get caught on playground equipment resulting in injury include: Long drawstrings on coats, jackets, or sweatshirts necklaces
Absences Please send in a dated doctor’s note or handwritten note when your child returns to school. 5 unexcused or handwritten notes could result in conference with teacher and administrator. Attendence is vital!!! Strong correlation between attendance and student success Call office for make up work
