Paper was invented by the Egyptians in the 8th century BC using papyrus and later reinvented by the Chinese in the 2nd century AD. It is fabricated through a process that transforms wood pulp into thin sheets that can be used for writing, printing, packaging and a variety of other applications. Common paper sizes in Europe follow the DIN-A format system.
