by Dr Hellin dated 2011
The abuse Maxine experienced met the
criteria of Severity of Abuse
‘Proper care would have limited the extent to
which her early experiences may have
adversely affected her development.

the following care involved with my health.

• Counselling services
• Psychiatric care

Reflecting on my thoughts, I was badly let down by so many

On medication from the age of 14 half years old to nine months support
from a support group.
11. What Prevented Me From Disclosing?

12. Possible Impact After Disclosure
Once a victim/survivor makes a disclosure they may become;
• Emotionally unbalanced
• Resort to criminal behaviour
• Become more susceptible to physical violence
• Regress into trauma
• Have recurring flashbacks
• Become disorientated
• Are likely to go on to self harm
• Take to drink and drugs
• Self medicate with pain relief
• Self harm
• Likely to go into Isolation
13. It is our way of dealing with the pain
Ufortunately the Impact on our family unit can
become unbearable at times.
In some cases we detach ourselves from our family
unit, become isolated, and are emotionless from our
inner feelings.
15. Sexual Abuse Remains A Taboo Subject
Discussions from NHS Professionals
6 week training programme that I
conducted with
Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS
Foundation Trust
2014-2015
16. Data
In this study I collated information gathered at the assessment of female
sexual abuse survivors who sought support from a charity based in the
East Midlands UK.
All 245 participants were over the age of eighteen, female, and who had
disclosed sexual abuse in order to receive a referral to the service or by
self referring.
The aim of the study was to see how research trends relate to a local picture,
to consider what the potential impact could be on health service provision,
and to provide recommendations for future commissioning and levels of
service delivery in meeting the needs of survivors of childhood sexual
abuse.

29. Is This Where I Was Going?
My right hand is being held
By someone who knows more than I
And I am learning
My left hand is being held
By someone who knows less than I
And I am teaching
Both my hands need thus to be held
For me – to be
Is this where I was going (by)
