How to Measure Success or Failure in Urban Development - Henriette Vamberg - GEHL Architects - Transforming Transportation 2013 - EMBARQ and The World Bank
Henriette Vamberg, Director of GEHL Architects, presented at the Transforming Transportation 2013 conference on how to measure success or failure of urban planning projects. She used examples from Melbourne, Australia to show that projects focusing on pedestrian access led to significant increases in public space, residents, students, cafes, and pedestrian traffic over 10-20 years. A project in Brighton, England transformed a street from one rarely used into one of the most popular places in the city with 600% more time spent and 175% more pedestrian traffic after increasing pedestrian access and reducing car traffic. Vamberg emphasized the importance of keeping future generations and public happiness as goals of urban planning.
In the autumn of 2019, the first evening of our tripartite autumn conference, Citymakers, explored the catalytic effect of events such as the 2012 Olympics on the transformation of cities. Paul Appleton opened with a presentation of London's Olympic legacy as the case study.

COMMUNITIES, CHANGING THE GREAT
AUSTRALIAN DREAM - HOUSING OPTIONS
Presentation to Outside the Square - Homes for Change event on 25th June 2015
Presenter Mike Day from Roberts Day and on behalf of Birchgrove Property
This is a challenging and visionary proposal for how 2000 new homes and additional employment and community facilities can be integrated into the historic city of Winchester. The presentation was given to Winchester residents on 6th August 2011 by Paul Bulkeley of Snug Projects Architects. Astonishingly the ideas received almost 100% support from the audience. The strategy not only provides much needed housing, it also improves the cities much loved setting, creating places where people want to live, work and play. Is this a new way of promoting development?
