Knowledge produced in the public sector has been found to be an important ingredient of
economic growth and technological progress. Close links to academic research have further
been shown to be beneficial for innovation performance of the individual firm. As there are
many different channels through which academic science reaches the private sector, most
prominently licensing contracts, joint research and academic consulting, it is important for
the decision making of policy makers and managers to assess their effectiveness. Most of the
existing research has focused on formal university technology transfer mechanisms, i.e. those
that embody or directly lead to a legal instrument like a patent, license or royalty agreement.
Only a few authors have investigated informal university technology transfer mechanisms.
Informal technology transfer focuses on non-contractual interactions of the agents involved,
i.e. on university scientists and industry personnel. Research suggests that formal and
informal technology transfer may go well together in that informal contacts improve the
quality of a formal relationship or that formal contracts are accompanied by an informal
relation of mutual exchange on technology-related aspects.
In this paper, we analyze whether these activities are mutually reinforcing, i.e.
complementary. Our analysis is based on a comprehensive dataset of more than 2,000
German manufacturing firms. We perform direct and indirect tests for the complementarity of
formal and informal technology transfer. Our results confirm a complementary relationship:
using both transfer channels contributes to higher innovation performance. The management
of the firm should therefore strive to maintain close informal relationships with universities to
realize the full potential of formal technology transfer.
The literature review defines key terms used in the report such as e-business, e-marketplace, enterprise resource planning systems, and software as a service. It also outlines different architectures for e-business including electronic data interchange, e-procurement systems, B2B hubs, the world wide web, and web services. Finally, it clarifies the main actors involved in an e-marketplace including providers, sellers, buyers, users, and suppliers.
This document outlines the key sections to include in a business plan presentation, including an overview of the company and solution, the skills and experience of the team, the customer needs being addressed, a demonstration of the unique solution, an analysis of competitors and competitive advantages, potential barriers to entry, details on the market opportunity like size and target customers, the business model for generating revenue, and financial projections for the first year.

This document summarizes transport in unicellular and multicellular organisms. In unicellular organisms, transport occurs over short distances by simple diffusion, osmosis, or active transport since the cell membrane is in direct contact with the environment. In multicellular organisms, transport must occur over longer distances since interior cells are not in direct contact with the environment. This requires the development of transport systems like circulatory systems to distribute oxygen, nutrients and remove wastes. The human circulatory system uses blood and blood vessels to transport these materials between organs and tissues via processes like diffusion and active transport.

The man and his dog went into the mountains to see land that the man wanted to buy. While crossing a stream, the man fell through the ice into the water up to his knees. Facing death by freezing, he was desperate to build another fire to survive.
Introducing and implementing the EUCIP Core training programme can only be efficient and successful if young professionals completing the training have a chance to be employed not only in Europe but also in Hungary. In the framework of the I-TShape project, the Pest County Foundation for Enterprise Promotion (PFEP) undertook to survey Hungarian stakeholders of the economy to assess the infrastructural background of various businesses, the status of this infrastructure, the conditions of its operation and the expectations towards professionals who operate and develop it. The results and conclusions of the survey are important for us, as we can use them in designing a training programme tailored to the needs of the Hungarian market demands that and then integrating it into the vocational training system in Hungary.

Global sourcing offers companies flexibility to change their business and operating models. It allows them to rapidly integrate acquisitions, transfer assets between locations, and incorporate innovations. Research by PricewaterhouseCoopers found that companies sourcing core activities externally value business model flexibility more and have achieved higher shareholder returns compared to those only sourcing back-office or front-office functions. Successful companies plan their goals before considering implementation and view sourcing as a strategic program. Orchestrating a portfolio of sourcing arrangements between internal shared services and external providers provides maximum flexibility.
This document discusses outsourcing trends and best practices. It provides an overview of why companies outsource functions, the historical background of outsourcing, factors to consider when determining what to outsource, and risks to be aware of. The document discusses the outsourcing decision process and considerations. It explains that outsourcing can provide cost savings by utilizing lower-paid foreign workers, but rushing into outsourcing without careful planning can have poor consequences. It recommends companies first identify their core competencies, assess risks, and select specialized firms to manage the transition closely. The example of Summit Information Systems outsourcing disaster recovery services illustrates how following these steps led to an initially nervous but ultimately successful outsourcing partnership.
The document discusses the outsourcing decision process and considerations. It explains that outsourcing can provide cost savings by utilizing lower-paid foreign workers, but rushing into outsourcing without careful planning can have poor consequences. Summit Information Systems is provided as an example of a company that successfully outsourced its disaster recovery by following these steps.
The document discusses trends in outsourcing for 2019. It notes that companies will need to change their outsourcing strategies to adapt to disruptive technologies. Disruptive outsourcing, cloud computing, and robotic process automation are highlighted as trends that will impact outsourcing. The document also provides methodologies for selecting outsourcing suppliers and evaluating potential outsourcing opportunities. Specific outsourcing areas like network operations and maintenance are examined in terms of functions that may be outsourced.
In the outsourcing territory, research and development (R&D) is considered the final frontier. That’s because R&D is seen as a source of...innovation – the mother of competitiveness, which is to be protected at any cost. As we all well know, from our business studies text books, core activities should never be outsourced.

The document discusses outsourcing and its impact on jobs and the economy in the United States. It notes that over 14 million American jobs are at risk of being outsourced offshore, making it difficult for recent college graduates to find work. While outsourcing was once concentrated in minimum wage labor jobs, it now includes white collar jobs in fields like IT, accounting, and architecture. As more jobs are sent overseas, there are fewer opportunities for American workers, damaging the economy. The outsourcing of jobs is contributing to the lack of jobs available for college graduates in the United States.

Outsourcing - Division of labour gives
competitive edge
A briefing by Deutsche Bank Research, Dr. Thomas Meyer
and Florian Schüler
Division of labour and specialisation are rightly regarded in economic research as the cornerstones of
productivity and prosperity. In keeping with this idea, European firms reduced their degree of vertical
integration by about 1.5 percentage points between 2003 and 2007.
Recent research has, however, found a supposedly negative correlation between the degree of division
of labour (in the form of outsourcing, for example) and productivity at the company level, meaning that
more outsourcing allegedly hurt productivity. This would fundamentally contradict standard manage-
ment practices. In our opinion, this supposed contradiction is based on a misleading interpretation of
empirical findings which overlooks important effects.
Performing a dynamic analysis reverses the picture: a vertical integration that was 1 percentage point
lower in 2003 is statistically associated with 5-10 percentage points higher earnings growth (cumulative)
in the following four years. Disintegrated production thus delivers a competitive edge. The decisive factor,
of course, is the optimum degree of vertical integration for each individual company, which can be derived
for example from the firm’s level of specialisation, the sector in which it operates, its market position and
management capacities.
