2. Our Solar System
The sun is the center of our solar system and eight planets, a
handful of dwarf planets, 170 named moons, dust, gas and
thousands of asteroids and comets orbit the sun.
3. Planets in the solar system
Our solar system is made up of
EIGHT PLANETS:
Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars,
Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and
Neptune.
The LARGEST planet is Jupiter,
while the SMALLEST planet is
Mercury.
4. Types of Planets
TERRESTRIAL PLANETS are also
known as the INNER PLANETS, they
include: Mercury, Venus, Earth and
Mars. These planets are warm, rocky
and have craters.
GAS GIANTS or the OUTER
PLANETS include: Jupiter, Saturn,
Uranus and Neptune.
5. Mercury
Mercury is closest
planet to the sun There is no water
on Mercury
There’s very little
atmosphere
There is a HOT side
and a COLD side
Smallest planet in
solar system Looks like our moon
6. Venus
Venus is the 2nd closest planet to the sun
It is almost the same size as Earth in size and
mass
It is sometimes known as Earth’s sister planet
A blanket of clouds trap heat
7. Earth
Third from the sun, where we live
Atmosphere, liquid water and
distance from the sun make Earth a
haven for life
8. Mars
Mars is fourth from
the sun
Mars is known as the
“red planet” because
of its reddish surface
created by iron
Has two moons and
the tallest mountain in
the solar system,
Olympus Mons
Scientists
hypothesize that
Mars once supported
a wet, warm Earth-
like climate
9. Jupiter
Jupiter is fifth from the sun
The LARGEST planet in the solar system
Considered a gas giant
Has no solid surface
10. Saturn
Saturn is the sixth planet from the sun
Has rings that are a thin layer of millions
of chunks of ice and rock
45 moons orbiting Saturn
12. Neptune
Neptune is the eighth planet from the
sun
It is a gas giant
Appears blue through telescope, and
named after the Roman god of the sea
13. How to remember all the
planets in the solar system?
My MERCURY
Very VENUS
Excellent EARTH
Mother MARS
Just JUPITER
Sent SATURN
Us URANUS
Nachos NEPTUNE
