Bryan World Economic Forum’s Young Global Leaders Brings Positive ChangeBryan Specht
An accomplished executive, Bryan Specht serves as the president of Olson Engage, a Chicago public relations firm. In 2004 Bryan Specht was one of the first nominees for the Young Global Leaders award given by the World Economic Forum.
Founded in 1971 with the belief that organizations should be responsible for society, the group encourages the exchange of ideas among world leaders in economics and politics. Each year, it designates innovators under 40 as Young Global Leaders. Forum founder Klaus Schwab launched the program in 2004.
Recipients are drawn from a diverse pool of change agents who value joint efforts between the public and private spheres. The 2019 winners have initiated programs such as sustainable agriculture, filmmaking, gender equity, and Internet privacy.
Past awardees have improved the world in many ways, ranging from food crises responses to equity funds that reward fair labor practices. They have participated in donating household items to slums in Mumbai, India, developing robotic legs, crowdfunding for creative endeavors, and many more initiatives for the common good.

Connect with China Collaborative and Global PerspectivesFlat Connections
Keynote Presentation by Julie Lindsay and Katie Grubb for the Global Education Conference 2015.
How do learners in and beyond China connect, communicate and collaborate? What tools, strategies and attitudes are needed to support learners across cultures and beyond borders. Through connected and collaborative learning using digital and online technologies, this presentation shares how to grow beyond the walls of the classroom to a world where solutions for positive change become real and include how to: build empathy through virtual connections; identify environmental and other issues; define what problems need to be solved; ideate solutions; share solutions via multimedia and invite feedback. The Connect with China Collaborative caters for diverse learner needs. Links with community organisations and events activates authentic conversations resulting in greater understanding about how we are connected. This type of learning engages with parents and the wider community, builds student success, and creates links to intercultural understanding.
It is imperative all educators become global - but what does this mean and how does it happen?
How do we define the global educator? Is it a qualification? Is it a self-declaration? Can it be proven through disposition, curriculum design, workflow, pedagogical approach, use of digital technology, or an ability to adapt and be flexible in learning? Is it all of these? As soon as the word ‘global’ is used we think about ‘global competency’ – are educators ready themselves to prepare students for adopting understandings that are global? The role online technologies play in supporting global educators is a significant factor also as it is through the use of emerging and established online technologies that global educators connect, communicate and collaborate.
Based on authentic material collected over the past 12+ months from global educators across the world this session explores the essential qualities of a global educator and a global education leader as well as global collaboration and learning design to go global, and provides strategies for becoming global.

New Citizen’s Activism in India - By Richa Singh ComDez
The recent rise of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), its surprising success in the Delhi Assembly elections of December 2013, and the short-lived but dramatic episode of Arvind Kejriwal acting as Delhi’s Chief Minister have some of its roots in the earlier anti-corruption protest movement. The AAP is evolving its own peculiar mix of protest and populism, while trying to find a programmatic profile. The AAP may or may not succeed in the 2014 elections. If it does so, a transformation of protest into party politics will have been remarkably fast; and AAP would likely provide some surprises for those used to the established forms of ‘doing politics’ in India. But even if AAP fails – and perhaps especially if it should fail – the new forms of popular protest are unlikely to disappear. They emerged years before the AAP, and may evolve even stronger in the future, constituting an innovative pattern of engagement in India’s democracy.

Similar to Delhi's Young Aam Aadmi—The Political and Social Work of Young Middle Class Activists (20)
In a May 9, 2024 paper, Juri Opitz from the University of Zurich, along with Shira Wein and Nathan Schneider form Georgetown University, discussed the importance of linguistic expertise in natural language processing (NLP) in an era dominated by large language models (LLMs).
The authors explained that while machine translation (MT) previously relied heavily on linguists, the landscape has shifted. “Linguistics is no longer front and center in the way we build NLP systems,” they said. With the emergence of LLMs, which can generate fluent text without the need for specialized modules to handle grammar or semantic coherence, the need for linguistic expertise in NLP is being questioned.

Welcome to the new Mizzima Weekly !
Mizzima Media Group is pleased to announce the relaunch of Mizzima Weekly. Mizzima is dedicated to helping our readers and viewers keep up to date on the latest developments in Myanmar and related to Myanmar by offering analysis and insight into the subjects that matter. Our websites and our social media channels provide readers and viewers with up-to-the-minute and up-to-date news, which we don’t necessarily need to replicate in our Mizzima Weekly magazine.
