2. INTRODUCTION
 Practicing good dental health is important to maintaining a healthy mouth,
teeth and gums. It will also help your appearance and quality of life. Your dental
health team consists of you and dental health professionals.

3. SYMPTOMS
 Toothache, spontaneous pain or pain that occurs without
any apparent cause.
 Tooth sensitivity.
 Mild to sharp pain when eating or drinking something sweet,
hot or cold.
 Visible holes or pits in your teeth.
 Brown, black or white staining on any surface of a tooth.
 Pain when you bite down.

4. PREVENTION
 Brush your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste.
 Floss regularly.
 Visit your dentist routinely for a checkup and cleaning. Tell the
dentist about any medical conditions you have and medications
you take.
 Eat a well-balanced diet.
 Quit smoking. Smoking increases your risk for gum disease.

5. TREATMENT
 Bridges. A bridge is a fixed replacement for a missing tooth or teeth.
 Crowns. A crown is a type of cap that completely covers a real tooth.
 Fillings. Fillings are used to repair a hole in a tooth caused by decay.
 Root canal treatment.
 Scale and polish.
 Wisdom tooth removal.
 Dental implants.

6. CONCLUSION
Dental caries is a common public health problem in school children associated with
poor oral hygiene, dietary and dental visit habits. Therefore, prevention measures
such as health education on oral hygiene, dietary habits and importance of dental
visit are obligatory for children.
