Office walls can help or hinder workflows. All depends of the design approach. A proper functional office design will deliver right messages to customers and will be a convenient language your company speaks every working day.
1. Design as communication
Jewelry company design case
Design talks. At
subconscious
level, your office
is translating your
company mission
and values
through individual
design.
We strongly
believe that
contemporary
office area should
be functional and
facilitate the
processes. Every
single element
should emphasize
your company
values.
How it works?
Our approach is based on the culture of production and psychology rather than on the
traditional architectural practice. We begin with functional diagrams describing company's
values,
interrelations
between
departments and
employees, and
analyzing staff
movement. Here
is an example of
the “trampled
paths” scheme
— a workflow
diagram. Once
the workflow is
clarified, we
proceed with
vivid images to
express the
functionality
through
materials.

2. The difference can be stunning. On the left picture you can see traditional design where
every object is dependent from and linked to
the walls. On the right picture the design
embodies convenience of movement. In fact, it
is the same office on both pictures.
Exterior is also changed to further express the company values through the facade of the
building.
3. The plan is divided into two parts. Left entrance
is for customers. Right entrance is for the company's
staff. The main value for customers is interactions with
each other and brand access. Therefore, the meeting
room became the core area of the office, exhibitions
and displays of jewelry collections are now held here.
This is a well-known public company, always exposed
to celebrity life. Ideal jewelry purchase scenario was
defined during the interview with the company
customers. Based on this understanding we created
separate comfortable purchase zones for men and
women. Women room is on the right picture, here ladies
can privately discuss the choice and walk through the
jewelry podium to see the whole ensemble in motion.
Men typically purchase watches. In the interview with
customers we figured out that men take decision easier
in a small square room. Note that the way to this square
room is not straight, it is organically curved as footpaths
in the forest or in the supermarkets. This is because of
the comfort of the movement and space perception.
Workflows in the company are different during the day.
To enable those a lot of areas were made
transformable. With this functional feature, office is
constantly filled with work processes. The staff is 100%
female team. Therefore, separate make-up zones and dressing rooms are designed for
them. To optimize time, we allocated special areas for stylists to provide their services
4. inside the office and prepare ladies for
public events.
On the 2nd floor mobile glass windows can
isolate heads of departments whenever
required. Most of the time they work in the
open space with other employees. We
eliminated everything which was not
functional, in that way we optimized the
space at its maximum to fa accommodate
twice more employees, facilitate
communication and management.
Additional space was utilized for a café,
which is a transformer itself, easily it can
turn into a cozy workplace or meeting room.
There is also a yoga room and a museum to
create new qualities of the office. Employees
feel very comfortable in such environment;
their efficiency and loyalty to the company
increases.
A proper functional office design will deliver
right messages to customers and will be a
convenient language your company speaks
every working day.
