KFC is exploring adopting blockchain technology in its supply chain to increase transparency, food safety, and compliance. This would require changes like partnering with blockchain experts, investing in new hardware/software, and training employees. Key barriers include high costs, interoperability with current systems, data security, and regulatory issues. To overcome these, KFC could diversify suppliers, invest in technology/analytics, and ensure any blockchain system complies with regulations. Blockchain may help KFC better manage inventory, balance supply and demand, and increase customer trust if implemented successfully.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

technology in the food supply chain processes. It also leads to the establishment of a suitable
environment so that the food manufacturers and suppliers can strengthen their processes (Thakur,
2023). The report aims to provide a detailed analysis of the chosen organization KFC along with
determining the blockchain technologies suitably. The analysis of the barriers and impact created
on KFC due to the integration of blockchain technologies. The discussions on the ways by which
the barriers can be removed from KFC are enlisted in this study. A detailed analysis of the
barriers, benefits related to blockchain, and the removal of barriers in the implementation of the
supply chain of KFC is included in this report.
Discussion
Overview of Blockchain Technology and its Use in food supply chains
Blockchain technology is described as the decentralized and shared ledger that helps to track all
the transactions carried out in the blockchain processes. It includes the tracking of assets present
in the business network as well as helps to record all the events carried out in the supply chain of
the organization. The blocks are linked with the form of cryptographic techniques and also form
a synchronized chain of information so that the delivery of the activities can be carried out in the
supply chain of the organization (Hasan and Habib, 2022). The formation of the cryptographic
changes leads to the development of distributed database management processes and also helps
to track down all the records and events successfully with the help of integrating the digital
cryptocurrency needs. The blockchain is determined to be a distributed database process that
4. helps to strengthen the distribution of recordings suitably. It not only helps to strengthen the
tracking of assets as well as helps to strengthen the techniques in a suitable chronological way.
The information should be included in the form of chronological processes that are included in
the development of a business network suitably (Long et al., 2022).
The blockchain is widely implemented in the food supply chain as it includes raw food suppliers,
food manufacturers, food inspectors, and certification entities. The transportation providers are
facilitated with accomplishing the detailed information related to the location and storage
conditions of the food products present in the queue. The food inspectors and the certification
entities help to focus on the verification of the product origin as well as the quality processes.
The food manufacturers are facilitated with information related to the food product ingredients
and the manufacturing processes. The raw food suppliers are involved in transacting the data on
the food origin as well as include the tracking of movement present across the supply chain. The
food product distribution processes are also facilitated which is enabling the individual to keep
tract of the safety and quality of the food product. The end consumers are facilitated with the
appropriate access details of the food products' provenance to verify their authenticity suitably. It
also enables the individual to focus on identifying the needs so that they can keep track of the
activities carried out in the food supply chains. Thus, it creates a positive impact on the
management of the food supply chain as well as helps to hold all the essential information
required by the individuals present in the supply chain (Negruțiu, 2022).

Description of the chosen food industry
a) Main products and services
KFC is involved in providing different products and services such as chicken sandwiches,
popcorn chicken, and wraps. It also is delivering different desserts, drinks, fill-ups, sauces, and
other products that help to strengthen the brand image of the company. The key product that is
provided by KFC is fried chicken and also is more popular in some of the countries present
worldwide. KFC is capable of attracting 12 million guests every day in more than 27000
6. restaurants present worldwide. As a result of this, the dimension of service quality is evident to
be maintained so that it can strengthen the delivery of services with quality. It enables the
organization KFC to assure that empathy, reliability, assurance, and responsiveness should be
maintained to strengthen the processes suitably. It also helps to include all the essential elements
as well as the required needs so that it can accomplish the needs suitably. The accomplishment of
the desired goals and essentialities are evident that play a vital role in the identification of the
needs and demands of the customers. KFC also is involved in releasing plant-based fried chicken
products that illustrate the changes in the product base present in the organization. As a result of
this, it created a positive effect on the supply chain of the product and also created an enhanced
organizational environment suitable for the accomplishment of the needs. KFC established its
brand name with the help of its different chicken products. The categorization of chicken
products in the form of chicken wings or chicken buckets helps them to strengthen the brand
image. Thus, it strengthened the brand name as well as enabled the company to focus on
enhancing the brand image suitably (Javatpoint, 2022).
b) Customers
The customer base is determined by the segmentation processes carried out with the help of
demographic segmentation processes that help to serve the target market which helps to focus on
strengthening the vegetarian and non-vegetarian processes successfully. It is surrounding the
customer segments which involves the suitable offerings with catering the activities as well as
the suitable offerings are carried to cater to kids and young kids suitably. It is almost belonging
to all groups of customers along with reflecting the suitable targeting of audiences as well as
includes the suitable categorization of target audiences carried out with the help of four groups
suitably. These are children, families, budget customers, and teens and young adults will help to
strengthen the non-personal marketing channels so that the integration of media and online and
offline processes should be carried out successfully. The digital marketing strategy is carried out
to strengthen the processes with the help of integrating popular digital marketing platforms. It
enables the individual to focus on highlighting the price and customer satisfaction successfully to
strengthen the processes. It also focuses on identifying the social media marketing processes as it
helps to strengthen the interactions with the customers by which KFC targets the processes. The
integration of Facebook processes is carried out by KFC as it addresses the customer grievances
carried out to strengthen the promotion of online ordering facilities suitably. The delivery of new
7. offerings is carried out with the help of integrating discounts and other schemes so that it can
address customer grievances (Arun, 2023).
Main benefits of adopting blockchain technology in the supply chain
The adoption of blockchain technology in the supply chain carried out by KFC helps to
strengthen the enhancement of transparency, increasing the safety of food, prevention of
counterfeits, and efficient compliance. KFC is showcasing the enhancement in the transparency
environment as well as creating visibility throughout the supply chain successfully. It helps KFC
to track down the costs along with integrating the assurance of the ingredients that will help to
process and transport all the details suitably (Wu, Fan and Li, 2022). The recording of the
immutable ledger as well as the transparency in the development of trust is carried out with the
help of building trust among the stakeholders and customers. The improvement in food safety
helps to strengthen the tracking of standards that are implemented at each stage of the supply
chain. It not only facilitates the individual to focus on the accomplishment of quality control
checks but also enables them to focus on addressing the issues faced by them (Ullah et al.,
2023). Efficient compliances are maintained to streamline the automation of documentation
processes as well as to execute the auditing and verification procedures. As a result of this, it
minimizes the risks related to the non-compliance. The prevention of counterfeit challenges
faced by KFC can be accomplished with the help of integrating the digital fingerprint. It can
easily able to assure authenticity and also maintains the integrity of the products. It helps to
reduce the risks of counterfeit items that are present in the supply chain (Cui and Gaur, 2021).
Discussion on the changes required to the supply chain of the chosen organization to adopt
blockchain for success
The organizational team has to undertake some crucial activities to implement blockchain
technology. The main activity of the organization will be approaching a partnership with the
right technology provider. The organization should consider an experienced expert who has
significant knowledge of blockchain technology. In this case, the organization will be ensured
that they are choosing the right partner and, in this case, significant barriers can be removed by
them. The organization has to invest in hardware and software to implement blockchain
technology (Hastig and Sodhi, 2019). At the initial stage, the cost of the blockchain technology
looks higher for the organization but in the long term run, the organization can be able to get
8. significant benefits. Effective implementation of blockchain technology can ensure data privacy
and maintain data security. This type of activity can help the organization to keep the data of the
important stakeholders and shareholders confidential. However, the organization has to develop
new protocols and standards to maintain the operational activities successfully. In the case of
protocol preparation, the organization has to consider the perceptions of the important
stakeholders (Mukherjee et al., 2023). This type of activity can help the organization to
undertake the most suitable protocols that can provide long-term success. The organizational
management group has to be very much focused on whether the standard of data management
has been maintained or not. The organization has to consider a training program for the
employees who will deal with blockchain technology. Effective training programs can enhance
the overall knowledge of the employees and the gathered knowledge will help them to continue
their activities for long-term purposes. Moreover, the organization needs to establish a
governance structure through which the entity will be able to oversee the operations of the
blockchain technology (Fan, Wu and Cao, 2020).
Barriers related to the implementation of blockchain technology in the chosen
organization’s supply chain
The main barrier to the implementation of blockchain technology for KFC's supply chain is a
heavy investment. If the organization will intend to implement this technology, then the entity
has to invest in software and hardware. This will increase the overall costs because the
organization also has to hire expertise in blockchain technology. Another significant barrier is
associated with the current supply chain which is interoperable. In this case, the suppliers and
other entities can operate their activities seamlessly with each other. If a certain partner or
supplier will consider different types of technology then the implementation of blockchain
technology may not provide significant assistance to the organization (Khan, Khan and Singh,
2023). So, the organizational management group has to create significant planning and after that,
they should consider blockchain technology. In the modern business era, data security can be
said as one of the most concerning areas for business organizations. Therefore, KFC has to put a
significant focus on data security and in this context, the entity has to consider a technical expert
who will provide adequate information. In this way, the organization has to manage the overall
activities and create an effective plan to implement blockchain technology (Kumar and Barua,
2023). Once the organizational team will take control of the constraints, the implementation of
9. the blockchain technology will be easier for the entity. The management group of the
organization also has to consider regulatory compliance as it is a very important factor for the
food industry. if the organization will not consider compliance with the regulatory framework,
then the entity may face massive challenges from government entities. So, these are some
barriers that can pose an immense threat to the organization regarding the implementation of
blockchain technology (Shrivastav, 2022).
Analyzing the current supply chain operations and ways to overcome the barriers
KFC is one of the most popular fast-food restaurant chains in the world and the organization has
a very significant supply chain. The main aim of the organization is to fulfil the requirements of
potential customers. For this reason, the organization is very much focused to maintain the
supply chain activities. However, it cannot be denied that the organization has faced some
significant challenges associated with supply chain management. One of the most significant
disruptions that the organization has faced during the emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic. The
emergence of the pandemic has created a massive impact on the supply chain of the organization.
The closure of restaurants, reduced capacity, and insignificant transportation have been seen due
to the pandemic (Kashav, Garg and Kumar, 2021). Another significant supply chain issue of the
organization is limited suppliers. It cannot be denied that dependency on limited suppliers can
create a massaging impact on the operational activities of the organization. So, the organization
needs to consider more suppliers to maintain the operational activities very smoothly. Moreover,
the organization can face massive challenges to supply the products and due to this reason, the
organization may not satisfy the requirements of the customers. Food safety issues have been
faced by the organization many times and it has also created a significant impact on the supply
chain management process of the organization (Malek and Desai, 2021). The organization has
intended to meet the food safety standards but the entity has failed many times.
The organization is also intended to undertake a sustainable approach but it will be very difficult
for the organization to achieve sustainability. The main reason is that the organization uses palm
oil and the production of this oil is directly associated with deforestation. So, it can create
significant issues for the organization regarding effective management of the supply chain.
Transportation and logistics challenges are also created significant issues in the supply chain
management process (Sahu and Rao, 2021). The organization needs to develop significant
10. strategies to meet the expectations of the customers. The organization needs to diversify the
suppliers and this type of activity can help the organization to maintain the supply chain process
significantly. Moreover, this type of activity can help the organization minimize the bargaining
power of the suppliers. In this way, the organization will be able to maintain the supply chain
activities for long-term purposes. The organization has to invest a significant amount of money
in technology and data analytics as these will help the entity to maintain the supply chain process
more significantly (Kumar Dadsena and Pant, 2023).
Conclusion
KFC is one of the most successful restaurant chains in the world and the entity is very much
renowned for its effective supply chain management process. The organizational supply chain
process is very effective but the entity should put more focus to enhance the operations. The
organization belongs to the food and beverage industry. The organization should implement
blockchain technology to maintain the data management process. Moreover, this technology can
enhance the performance of the supply chain and in this case, the entity will be able to meet the
expectations of the potential customers. Blockchain technology will help the organization in
many ways as it can help the entity to manage the inventory properly. Moreover, the
organization can also be able to maintain the right balance between market demand and supply.
If the organization will be able to maintain the supply of the products, then the entity can be able
to meet the expectation of the customers. This type of activity can attract the attention of the new
customers which can increase the customer base. Blockchain technology has been used by many
organizations and it provides different types of benefits to them. So, the management of KFC
also has to consider this technology to maintain the operational activities and supply chain
aspects very significantly. Many barriers will be raised in front of the organization during the
implementation of blockchain technology and the entity has to address the issues. The
organization needs to comply regulatory framework to adapt the blockchain technology and in
this case, the entity should not consider any casual activity. In this way, the organization will be
able to implement blockchain technology and operate for the betterment of the business.
