FIELD EXPERIENCE
Master’s thesis
Community of Nuevo Becal and surrounding areas, Campeche, Mexico — 2012 ­ 2014
A group of poor and mostly illiterate landowners from the rural community of Nuevo Becal had recently created a
Wildlife Management Unit; they asked for guidance to develop economic activities while maintaining its fragile
ecosystem. The thesis was divided into three themes. My part of the project was to focus on community­based tourism
(CBT). I was able to:
● Bring the lessons learned​ from various CBT ventures of the area to the landowners,
● Organize a meeting​ between the landowners and an important institution that could provide them with

significant funding,
● Put the landowners in contact​ with members of two large organizations that could provide them with excellent
guidance,
● Create a strong relationship with the State’s representative​ and discuss the landowners’ vision with him,
● Break down the Mexican law of ecotourism​ in simpler terms and present it to the landowners in a way they
all understood.
According to the landowners, the relationships I helped create were indispensable to the development of their
endeavors, and they now felt they knew what next steps to take.
Fire crew leader
Wildlands Restoration Volunteers, Colorado, USA — 2013
Led a crew in a fire restoration project. I was responsible for explaining the tasks to a diverse group of individuals, for
the safety of my crew, and for keeping them motivated.
Mail­in survey project
LSU professor of Human Dimensions, Louisiana, USA — 2011
Assisted a professor by manually entering the answers from over 1,000 surveys sent to landowners asking about the
impacts of wild boars on their land. I further analyzed the results to be presented in a poster.
Door­to­door surveyor
New Orleans 9th Ward, Louisiana, USA — 2011
Part of a group of students going door­to­door for a post­Katrina research for a LSU Sociology professor. We were
assigned streets to cover, and surveyed residents about their post­Katrina experience. This project called for
independence as each student worked separately with no supervision.

Cultural:
I lived 4 years in Senegal, 2 years in the Dominican Republic, 2 years in Mali, 1 year in France, 1 year in Mexico, and 16
non­consecutive years in the USA. Most of my summers were spent in Andorra.
Leadership:
Elected in October 2005 by the students as their representative in the School’s Affairs Committee at the Lycée Liberté
(French International School) in Bamako, Mali. I succeeded in ensuring that drinking water dispensers be made
available on the school grounds for students, as none existed before and students were buying sugared drinks or unsafe
water from street vendors; I thus contributed to improve health and hygiene.
Income generation:
Free­lance French language tutor for university students at LSU; Part­time secretarial assistant at the Department of
French Studies at LSU, where I was given a Meritorious Service Award after six months of working there.
