The retail industry in Australia saw increases in sales in May and June 2012, with sales rising 0.8% in May and 1.0% in June, the highest increase in over two years. However, analysts are only forecasting flat growth over the next 12 months given ongoing economic uncertainties from issues like the carbon tax and European debt crisis. Several large retail chains also announced store closure programs. The results show the retail market remains cautious but any acquisitions could provide opportunities for growth. Customer service and experience will be key for retailers to succeed in this environment.

The document describes the BioNav system, which provides a dynamic navigation interface for querying biomedical databases like PubMed. BioNav categorizes query results using the MeSH concept hierarchy and constructs a navigation tree. It then reveals only a subset of concept nodes at each step to minimize expected navigation cost for the user. The system architecture includes a web interface, middle layer, navigation system, and database. BioNav was found to significantly reduce average navigation costs compared to traditional static interfaces through experimental evaluation.

This document presents a Grey Theory approach combined with artificial neural networks (ANN) for assessing the state of power transformers using dissolved gas analysis (DGA). Grey Theory is applied to analyze DGA samples based on partial information to standardize interpretation. Key gases from DGA samples are used as input for the Grey model. The Grey model calculates a "target heart degree" to determine transformer state. An ANN model is developed and validated against the Grey model outputs. The ANN shows some success in validating the benchmarks of the proposed Grey model for assessing transformer condition from DGA results.

The document summarizes research on wind erosion in alpine meadows. Wind tunnel experiments showed that sediment and PM10 transport decreased with increasing plant density. Field investigations found lower sediment transport rates in areas with 15-20% vegetation cover compared to bare soil. Tests also revealed that mycorrhizal fungi help reduce wind erosion by increasing plant growth and soil aggregate stability, thereby improving vegetation establishment and wind erosion control over the long term.
The document discusses the benefits of exercise for mental health. Regular physical activity can help reduce anxiety and depression and improve mood and cognitive function. Exercise causes chemical changes in the brain that may help protect against mental illness and improve symptoms.

This document summarizes a study that investigated the physicochemical, heavy metal, and microbial properties of soils polluted by organic waste at an animal market/park in Uyo, Nigeria. Soil samples were collected from 5 stations at depths of 2, 10, and 20 cm and analyzed using various methods. The results showed acidic soil pH at some stations. Heavy metal pollution varied significantly between stations, with lead, zinc, copper, nickel, and manganese being highest near the slaughterhouse. Bacterial and fungal contamination also varied between stations. The study concludes that surface drainage and wastewater treatment are needed to prevent pollution of nearby water sources.

SYNERGY Induction to Pedagogy Programme - Evaluation of the Learning Resource...Sarah Land
The SYNERGY Induction to Pedagogy programme was created by project partners, with the aim of helping micro-enterprise owners using the SYNERGY Exchange platform, to engage in peer-to-peer learning opportunities. This training programme comprises six modules and is delivered over 5 hours through a series of video lectures and PowerPoints which have been written, developed and recorded by project partners.
These modules provide micro-enterprise owners with a sound understanding of the basics in relation to e-didactics, quality criteria of peer-learning, evaluation of online learning resources and online learning environments, producing quality learning resources for peers and other knowledge that has helped them to become competent and confident online peer-educators. This module is entitled ‘Evaluation of the Learning Resources’ and provides content which provides an introduction to the basic concepts of quality in peer education, how to assess the quality of learning materials produced by peer educators and also an introduction to some common European standards and toolkits for evaluating online education.
These slides are available in English, Finnish, German, Greek, Italian and Romanian.
