Invasion Plans COSSAC Plan  Plan to use two airborne brigades to cover the advance of three landings of infantry in Normandy Montgomery's Amendment Wanted five different beaches to be attacked At the same time the attacks would be supported by two Airborne divisions deploying on the flanks Also wanted each army to have its own beach and not combine forces unless necessary
Troops A total of 6,000 ships were needed for the invasion On the beaches of Omaha and Utah a total of 60,000 men and 6,800 vehicles were to be deployed 43,500 men and 6,000 vehicles were to invade Normandy Over 3 million men were to be deployed between the allied nations
The French Allies coordinated with the resistance, however they didn’t say to much because they could have traitors in their midst. The French disrupted German communication and sabotaged Bridges and led the Germans to believe the attack would take place else ware.
June 6th “D day” The Germans weren't expecting it. They thought the Americans wouldn’t attack yet due to needing 4 consecutive days of good weather in order to ever attack.
Normandy Began on the night of June 5, 1944 1,000 ships sailed away from the British isles toward the Coast of Normandy The mission was to liberate Europe
Death Toll Germany  320,000 deaths United States  135,000 deaths United Kingdom, Canada, and France were the last three  less than 65,000 deaths
