Every ASF project has a story to tell and behind a story we find people contributing with a real love in technologies. They share the Open Source philosophy and this honest commitment in terms of personal effort for achieving any kind of improvement for the project means that there are individual contributors following a common light: The Apache Way. Piergiorgio will describe the path taken by the Apache ManifoldCF Community for getting these results, starting from the incubation process to the promotion as Top Level Project and then engaging new contributors. Finally Piergiorgio explains how the Community can help with a huge benefit also in the strategic view for a project. Each contributor shares his own specific expertise on the field and his technological sensibility will bring added value until to drastically improve the scope of the entire project. El concierto del Hollywood Bowl fue la actuación de bienvenida de The Doors para los fanáticos de Los Ángeles. Este concierto había sido copatrocinado por una estación de radio Top 40 local, "KHJ", que anteriormente se había negado a tocar la música de The Doors cuando el grupo todavía estaba en un nivel clandestino. El concierto se agotó: los 18,000 asientos se agotaron y los fanáticos de Los Ángeles estaban listos y esperando a The Doors. Non-profits serve open source project communities in very particular ways. Creating non-profits to support the community’s work takes skill and thoughtfulness, often as much as the work building the community itself around the project. The successful creation of the non-profit structure can lead to the next wave of growth for the community. An unhealthy non-profit is a drain on everyone’s energy. This talk provides a framework for understanding how a non-profit solves certain inescapable problems that successful open source project communities encounter in their growth. It provides practices and processes and tools to engage partners in creating successful non-profits. It looks at a number of real world examples. Anti-patterns are presented along the way.

This paper presents Reef, a system for generating publicly verifiable succinct non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs that a committed document matches or does not match a regular expression. We describe applications such as proving the strength of passwords, the provenance of email despite redactions, the validity of oblivious DNS queries, and the existence of mutations in DNA. Reef supports the Perl Compatible Regular Expression syntax, including wildcards, alternation, ranges, capture groups, Kleene star, negations, and lookarounds. Reef introduces a new type of automata, Skipping Alternating Finite Automata (SAFA), that skips irrelevant parts of a document when producing proofs without undermining soundness, and instantiates SAFA with a lookup argument. Our experimental evaluation confirms that Reef can generate proofs for documents with 32M characters; the proofs are small and cheap to verify (under a second). Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software Fuzzing

Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process. In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds. - These are slides of the talk given at IEEE International Conference on Software Testing Verification and Validation Workshop, ICSTW 2022.
