ABOUT US
We are a small group of entrepreneurs who dream big and intend to change the way
that administrative software is sold and implemented in schools and districts today.
For years we have watched large commercial education software companies continue
to provide poor software that is proprietary and horribly expensive to a market that
has little budget and few choices. We have been witness to botched and failed
implementations that waste precious education budget dollars that should be going to
the classroom and student instruction. And we have decided to change all of that
starting right now. How? By providing quality alternatives to commercial software
that are economical, easy to use and completely open. We are giving our clients
freedom and control over their software solutions.
We have big dreams, a lot of passion about what we do and the personal willpower to
get it done. We aren’t working for venture capitalists or angel investors. We are
working for the good of education and more specifically, we are working for you, the
individual educator. We intend to change the business model of administrative
education software and force the large commercial companies to change with us. And
in doing so, education wins and most importantly, students win and that keeps us
here day in and day out working for you.

This features include all necessary functionalities to run a
school:
Demographics, Grade Book, Progress Report, Report Card,
Transcript, Parent Portal, Attendence etc.

Student Demographic :
openSIS enables the tracking of numerous student demographic attributes in a
permanent record and across enrollments. Need something not included in
the base installation? Use our custom categories and fields that allow you to
easily create any number of custom fields to capture your specific data needs.
A student’s basic details are
captured in this screen. You can
add additional tabs /categories
and unlimited Number of fields
without a single line of coding,
with just a few clicks.
Student Demographic:

Contact Information :
Easily add contact information for parents, relatives and authorized
individuals. Designate legal guardian, bus stops and associate parents with
students enabling automatic access to the openSIS parent portal.
In one screen you have student’s
home and mailing address as well
as primary and secondary
contact information. All
important information is in one
page.
Also, you can add unlimited
contacts for a student and define
any relationships.

Scheduling :
openSIS includes a scheduler that allows you to easily input student requests
and mass schedule students. You can make multiple schedule runs as you make
adjustments and have multiple schedules within a school. View and print
student schedules and class rosters with just a few clicks.

students. You can see it by
marking periods or by an entire
year.

Grade Book :
The built in grade book allows teachers to enter homework assignments, class
tests and any other activity using weighted scales if desired.
Automatic tallying of grades, reports to find erroneously entered grades and
advanced ad hoc reporting is included. Entering final grades is as easy as a
mouse click.

openSIS includes numerous standard reports and the ability to design custom
reports using simple check boxes. Reports are output to PDF format for easy
printing and viewing. Can’t produce the report you need? openSIS uses
PostgreSQL, a relational database, and any industry standard reporting tool
can be used to create custom reports.

openSIS includes the ability to print student transcripts. Create groups of
students across numerous attributes and click a button. It doesn’t get any

ready. Students and parents can
also generate transcripts from
their respective portals in one

Discipline module lets educators document and track disciplinary incidents,
maintain related records, notify parents of infractions, and produce reports
and referral forms. It comes with default fields and values that can be

openSIS + Moodle :
openSIS is bi-directionally integrated with Moodle LMS in the code level using
REST-API specifications. It supports Moodle versions 1.9 thru 2.3.2
The Two Applications Are Integrated In
The Following Areas:
When a new student, teacher or staff is created in openSIS ,they are automatically
created in Moodle. For existing users, there is a check box option and when it is
checked, the user gets created in Moodle.

openSIS courses are divided into three levels. Subject, Course and Course Period. We
have provided the ability to synchronize each level into Moodle as it is created.
Course Manager »
In openSIS, when students are scheduled in a class period that also exist in Moodle,all
students are automatically synchronized in Moodle with proper authentication.
Students get access to that class and all its contents. The teacher who is teaching the
class gets to see all those students enrolled in the Moodle course. The system even
creates the calendar weeks in Moodle based on the begin and end dates of the marking
period (in openSIS) in which the course period is offered.

When a Course period is created in openSIS with the option to create in Moodle, a
default Assignment category called Moodle is created within the openSIS Grade book
This category synchronizes Teacher activities from Moodle in the form of Assignments,
Lessons and Quizzes. All grades given in Moodle gets automatically pulled into openSIS.
In openSIS, a Teacher can look at progress report that will show grades from openSIS
and Moodle. When the final grades are created for report cards, there is an option to
import grade book grades. When you do so, your Moodle grades get factored in.
Therefore, if you are using Moodle for graded assignments, you can combine the grades
in openSIS and Moodle to give the student a combined grade. Alternately, if a Teacher
wants to exclude the grades from Moodle, he/she can put an asterisk (*) in the
assignment to exclude it from the calculation.

Developed by Community volunteers and OS4Ed staff. Continuously evolving. Totally
FREE.
This edition of openSIS includes the core system only. Enough to run any school
properly. If you want extra features, upgrade to School or District edition. It includes
the source code so you can always cutomize it for your own use. If you develop
something useful, please submit the enhancements back to the community.
If you want to volunteer your time in developing openSIS please join the

School Edition (openSIS Pro) :
Well tested, commercial grade edition with many extra features. Offered as a secured
hosted solution in the “cloud”. Suitable for small & medium schools seeking no hassle
solution.
We take the community edition and thoroughly test it. Then we add several extra
