This document provides an overview and instructions for using an OpenEye E-Series Digital Video Recorder (DVR). It describes the DVR's live view interface, search and playback functions, system setup options for configuration, recording, and more. The document is organized into sections covering key areas of the DVR's operation and administration.

E-SERIES REMOTE CONTROL
All functions of the DVR can be controlled using the
included remote. E-Series DVRs can be set to 19
different IDs, allowing a total of 19 separate DVRs to be
controlled by a single remote.

LIVE VIEW TOOLBAR
Live view can be used to view cameras in different
configurations. In addition, all DVR functions can be
accessed from this primary display.

LIVE VIEW MENU
The Live View Menu can be used to access the core
functions of the DVR; Setup, Search & Export. In
addition, it can be used to change which user is logged
in or power off the DVR.

LIVE VIEW CHANNEL MENU
A menu with a number of options to access other menus
and control live view variables can be accessed by right-
clicking on any channel or pressing enter, using the
arrow buttons to select a channel and pressing enter
again (using the remote or front panel).

LIVE VIEW CHANNEL MENU
Several options on the camera menu are not specifically
tied to any camera and can be accessed by selecting
any channel. These functions provide important
additional functionality which may not be available on
other menus (such as logging off).

PTZ CONTROL
Pan/Tilt/Zoom cameras can be programmed and
controlled using the PTZ portion of Live View. Alternate
PTZ functions are listed under buttons on the DVR in
black. Right-click to access the PTZ menu. Otherwise,
the on-screen compass can be used.

13. CONFIGURING TOURS
Tours are configured and stored in the camera. This means that if the DVR is replaced or settings reset, the tour will
not need to be reconfigured. Once these steps are complete, simply press the TOUR MOVE button to start the tour.

Recorded video can be accessed by selecting SEARCH
on the Menu or channel menu to bring up the search
menu or by pressing the REPLAY button on the live
toolbar to begin playing back video.

SEARCH CONTROLS
There are several search controls that are available
whenever video is being played back, regardless of the
initial search type.

While playing back video, individual channels can be
selected using the search popup menu.

EXPRESS SEARCH
Express search can be used to quickly determine what
times and dates have recorded video.

EVENT SEARCH
Event Search is used to quickly locate recorded motion
or sensor events. This list of events can easily be
exported to a CD/DVD or USB device.

OTHER SEARCH OPTIONS
There are several search options that can simplify
playing back video from a specific time or location.

EXPORT
Video is backed up using the DVR’s native proprietary
format, which is secure and flexible.

AUTO USB BACKUP
E-Series DVRs can be configured to automatically back
up data to a USB attached hard drive. This can help
simplify archiving and ensure there is always a backup
of the video.

Global DVR functions such as User and Disk
Management are located in the SYSTEM section of
setup. These functions should be configured before
proceeding to other areas of setup.

LOCALIZATION SETTINGS
Various settings can be changed to adapt the DVR to
different regions. All localization settings are in System
Setup.

In addition to locale settings, several other global
functions can be changed from within System Setup.

S/W UPGRADE
Firmware can be updated via Remote Center, Radius or
the S/W Upgrade function in System Setup on the DVR.
In all cases a user with permissions to access System
Setup must be the one to perform the update.

FORMAT
The first page displayed upon selecting Disk Setup is
FORMAT. This section shows size and recording status
of any connected drives and allows any media to be
formatted.

OVERWRITE
By default, E-Series DVRs will begin overwriting the
oldest video once the internal drives are full. Overwriting
can be turned off if necessary, but is not generally
recommended.

CHECK
The check screen can be used to have the DVR check
file system integrity and attempt to fix any problems
found.

SMART
S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting
Technology) is used to predict impending drive failure to
minimize the possibility of data loss or down time.

SERVER USER MANAGEMENT
Up to 20 user accounts can exist on any given DVR.
These accounts are fully configurable (other than the
default admin account) and are used to log in at the DVR
or remotely via any client software (such as Radius,
Remote Center or MDVR).

USER PERMISSIONS
Each user account can be configured to allow or deny a
number of variables including the ability to search or
even view some cameras. Users cannot be given access
to the setup interface.

CONFIGURATION
DVR settings can be saved, exported, loaded or reset
using the CONFIGURATION setting. Saving a
standardized config to a USB device can save time
when installing multiple DVRs.

All camera and monitor configuration is handled in the
CAMERA portion of setup. Cameras can be labeled,
cameras can be adjusted to improve the picture and the
spot monitor outputs can be configured here.

adjusted in CAMERA SETUP to optimize each camera
as needed.

Any connected PTZ camera must be configured in PTZ
SETUP before it can be controlled by any user.

The cameras displayed on the sequencing spot monitor

resolution as well as labeling, transparency and border
options can be adjusted in MONITOR SETUP.

taken on motion or sensor events are configured through
the RECORD section of setup.

QUICK RECORD SETUP
Many installations are configured with all cameras set to
the same recording type and rate. If a single setup is all
that is required across all channels, QUICK! RECORD
SETUP can be used to easily make global recording
adjustments.

Recording Setup allows configuration of the frame rate,
resolution, quality and pre/post alarm settings of any
connected cameras.

SCHEDULE
The SCHEDULE screen is used to specify the recording
type for each camera at every hour of the day.

Record up to 16 channels of audio E480 series Digital
Recorders. Record up to 4 channels of audio on E120
and E240 model Digital Recorders

The record button can be used to start recording on all
channels at the settings specified on this menu. Instant
Backup is also configured here, and can be initiated by
pressing the red button on the DVR front panel.

The DVR can be set to record when a motion or sensor
(or both) event takes place. This screen enables
configuration of these event types.

Sensors are a valuable way to integrate the recorder
with other security and monitoring devices and better
automate surveillance and responses to possible
threats.

Several actions can be taken when a sensor input is
triggered. All available functions other than recording are
configured in the ACTION portion of setup.

ALARM MONITOR
E-Series DVRs can transmit clips of video to remote
workstations, giving instant notification of an event and
ensuring a copy of the video exists even if something
happens to the DVR.

All communication with external devices via network or
serial connections is configured in the NETWORK
portion of setup.

IP and DDNS settings can be configured in NETWORK
SETUP for remote connection from a workstation on the
local network or over the Internet.

CLIENT CONFIGURATION
Network settings related to client connections such as
ports and transfer speed can be modified in Client
Configuration.

SERIAL SETUP
Serial Setup configures RS-232/422 connections to
allow communication from a serial device such as a PTZ
joystick or home automation hardware.

E-MAIL SETUP
E-Series DVRs can send email notification on a number
of events. Email server and notification configuration are
handled in Email Setup.

E-MAIL OPTION
E-Series DVRs can send email when a number of
different events occur. Select SET then choose as many
types as needed for each email address to enable
notification when these events take place.

E-MAIL SERVER SETUP
By default, the DVR uses its own internal mail server. If
the internal server fails to send email, it is usually
because it is blocked by the ISP. If this occurs, use the
SMTP SERVER option.

The INFORMATION portion of setup provides
information on the DVR settings, status and firmware
state.

Information such as remote connections, users entering
search, backup or setup or camera signal loss can be
viewed in this section.

STATUS VIEW
Status view can be used to easily determine how much
data is being retained before it is overwritten. In addition,
recording, alarm and network settings are listed for
reference.

Video format, firmware information and the DVR MAC
address can be found in VERSION VIEW. This
information can be used to determine which firmware
version is currently installed.

Periodic firmware updates are released that offer
enhancements to the features and functionality of E-
Series DVRs. These updates are free, result in no loss
of data or settings and can be easily applied.

DDNS OVERVIEW
OpenEye DDNS is a service included with all
DVRs that enables connection to any remote
DVR regardless of it’s IP address. This
service is free for the life of the DVR.

DDNS is offered for free on all DVRs. To
enable DDNS, a few configuration steps must
be completed on the DVR. Simply follow the
included instructions or contact technical
support for assistance.

DDNS can be easily configured on the DVR by selecting
the Server, ID, Password and Host Name as specified
on the included Dynamic DNS document.

ROUTER CONFIGURATION
Unless the DVR itself is configured with a
WAN IP address, the router to which the DVR
connects will need to be configured to
forward connections to the DVR.

While all routers are different, this example of
proper configuration of a Linksys router (very
common router) shows the typical
configuration requirements for many routers.
