After completing the initial year, I4MS has hosted its first public international event on 18th June in Berlin, in cooperation with the launch of the German manufacturing programme, Autonomik für Industrie 4.0". I4MS has brought together more than 150 professionals from industry and innovation, who have attended to several presentations about what has been achieved by I4MS and further funding opportunities for SMEs and middle size corporates (mid-caps) under the Initiative.
The event signified the importance of SMEs in Europes manufacturing industry and their role in the reindustrialisation process for Europe. At a glance: SMEs are providers of around 45% of manufacturing added value and roughly 59% of employment in the manufacturing sector.

News and Newspaper Industry: Towards a New Leadership in Innovation. Manifesto for an International Alliance for Media Research and Innovation.
Looking ahead, the newspapers and news publishers global community should become more open and integrate more players into research, development and innovation: public and private research centres and labs, start-ups and innovative technology providers, VC, business angles, and research funding partners in order to create an overall ecosystem of innovation to serve the fast moving media value chain. This ecosystem of innovation will develop around four pillars: 1) a shared strategic vision presented in this manifesto, 2) Training and coaching, 3) the co-production of innovative services and technologies in partnership with the world of research, 4) Technology transfer with specific interface between startups, tech providers and publishers.

In the world of the enterprise, innovation must extend from the initial ambitious ideas gathered from R&D labs around the world, all the way through applied R&D with industry partners, and into the development and commercialization of technology products and platforms.
Innovation starts with the spark of the right culture and talent meeting that ambitious and once hidden idea. But it doesn’t stop there. In the world of the enterprise, I see the practice of innovation as encompassing a full lifecycle. It starts with those crazy and ambitious ideas that are then iterated and shepherded through a rigorous process of applied R&D. For the ideas that finally prove their worth, new technology products
and platforms that address significant business problems are created and taken into the marketplace.
I call this multi-phase process: Full Lifecycle Innovation. It is a practical approach to one of the most creative and essential practices in business today:
Transforming Ideas form the Lab Into Marketplace Realities
The practice of Full lifecycle innovation requires a layer of processes, resources and decision criteria – each one a little different for the four phases of the journey:
1. Open Innovation
2. Applied R&D
3. Product and Platform Development
4. Commercialization
At each step, truly powerful events are triggered, explored and nurtured as different players, technologies and ideas enter the mix. All of them are serving the goal of creating something that is substantially bigger and more impactful than the simple sum of its parts. Something that is truly remarkable.
At NTT i3, we believe that Full Lifecycle Innovation is about:
Curating a culture of ambitious ideas
With rebellious talent from around the world
Dedicated to turning hidden opportunities into real products
That make a difference for the enterprise

Enterprise Excellence is Inclusive Excellence.pdfKaiNexus
Enterprise excellence and inclusive excellence are closely linked, and real-world challenges have shown that both are essential to the success of any organization. To achieve enterprise excellence, organizations must focus on improving their operations and processes while creating an inclusive environment that engages everyone. In this interactive session, the facilitator will highlight commonly established business practices and how they limit our ability to engage everyone every day. More importantly, though, participants will likely gain increased awareness of what we can do differently to maximize enterprise excellence through deliberate inclusion.
What is Enterprise Excellence?
Enterprise Excellence is a holistic approach that's aimed at achieving world-class performance across all aspects of the organization.
What might I learn?
A way to engage all in creating Inclusive Excellence. Lessons from the US military and their parallels to the story of Harry Potter. How belt systems and CI teams can destroy inclusive practices. How leadership language invites people to the party. There are three things leaders can do to engage everyone every day: maximizing psychological safety to create environments where folks learn, contribute, and challenge the status quo.
Who might benefit? Anyone and everyone leading folks from the shop floor to top floor.

Putting the SPARK into Virtual Training.pptxCynthia Clay
This 60-minute webinar, sponsored by Adobe, was delivered for the Training Mag Network. It explored the five elements of SPARK: Storytelling, Purpose, Action, Relationships, and Kudos. Knowing how to tell a well-structured story is key to building long-term memory. Stating a clear purpose that doesn't take away from the discovery learning process is critical. Ensuring that people move from theory to practical application is imperative. Creating strong social learning is the key to commitment and engagement. Validating and affirming participants' comments is the way to create a positive learning environment.

Beneath the surface
Our attention tends to be fixated
on the things that are easy to
see – in the case of IP, that is
especially patents. Which
mean different things to different
parties.
But we know there are many
other forms of IP protection,
including
other formal instruments,
contracts of various kinds, and
informal mechanisms.
IP strategy typically involves
mixtures of these.

What’s New?
Innovation “beyond the boundaries of the firm”
has been around for a very long time – Europe
is familiar with innovation networks; innovation
supporting services in R&D, design,
consultancy, integration, and much more;
collaborative projects in research, standards-
setting, market development, and much more….
These are almost certainly becoming more
important
And there are two qualitatively different features
of Open Innovation today

NEW FEATURES - 1
Information Technology and
Cyberculture
• FLOSS, Open Source, as a model for
software development
• Web 2.0 social networking for content,
creative, and other novelty
• New IT-based tools to support collaborative
working, crowdsourcing, etc.
• These can be important beyond the IT and
software sectors – eg Lego

IT & Cyberculture Management Paradigms
A huge range of different OI approaches:
One-off versus embedded strategy
Substantial collaboration versus scanning and polling
Funded research programmes (enforcing OI) versus
autonomous initiatives
Few versus many collaborators
Hub-and-spoke versus (virtual) networks
Innovation specialists (suppliers, firms, Universities,
KIBS) versus users (customer firms, even consumers),

With many partners engaged in Open

Variations in IP instruments and strategies
Likely to be many diverse experiences – so
need to look for patterns beyond the usual
suspects – or at least, be very cautious about
assuming that looking at the tips of the icebergs
tells us the story of what lies beneath.
