Police remind you to “Lock ‘em Out!”
Free home security checks offered to homeowners
An open garage door is an open invitation to a burglar. A large percentage of burglaries
in Gilbert are committed by thieves who steal valuables from an open garage.
Although Gilbert remains among the safest communities in the nation, this crime of
opportunity occurs often, and makes up a majority of the burglary rate. In January, the
Gilbert Police Department noticed a large spike in burglaries due to open garage doors.
We would like to remind citizens to secure your property by closing your garage door,
locking your car doors, and removing anything of value from your vehicle.
The Crime Prevention Unit offers free home security inspections that can be scheduled
Monday – Thursday from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. The inspection itself will take
approximately 30 minutes and will be conducted by one of our Crime Prevention
Specialists. The “Lock ‘em Out” inspection process will allow Gilbert residents the
opportunity to learn more about Gilbert’s crime rate, as well as home security
deficiencies found within their own homes. Simple, low-cost recommendations will also
be provided during this inspection that will better protect you from becoming a victim of
residential burglary.
To schedule your free “Lock ‘em Out” home security check, please contact the Crime
Prevention Unit at (480) 635-7520 or (480) 503-6527.. We encourage you to take
advantage of this free program!
