Traditional best practice in the telecom industry is to buy and integrate a bunch of building blocks with standardized interfaces, not unlike Lego.
However, with the move to open source software and cloud services, this traditional approach is challenging.
We will describe a new approach to open-up previously locked-in mobile network assets; building telecom networks like software.

This slide is prepared as a course work for E-Business Management undergraduate course at Yıldız Technical University, Industrial Engineering department.
When we presented this subject we talked about relation between business and open source. For instance, some corporations has changed their models being from product provider to service provider. So this means a change in financial approaches.
"Open source movement is strongly supported from open source software users and developers, according to their groups' agendas and discourses."
Introduction to (web) APIs - definitions, examples, concepts and trendsOlaf Janssen
This story is about the added value of APIs (application programming interfaces) for modern businesses, developers and software consumers. It deals with API-fundamentals and shows how APIs are the cornerstones of modern business development (BizDev2.0). By looking at casestudies from Google Maps, Twitter, Amazon, eBay, Moo, Flickr, Netflix and other web2.0-companies, it becomes clear how APIs add value for all parties on the modern web.

Business Models and Open Source Licenses in 2019: Can we all get along?Jeffrey Borek
The open source definition is over 20 years old. Cloudera and Hortonworks have completed their all-stock merger of their software companies. Major companies in the open source ecosystem are being snapped up by traditional IT companies. Seems like a good business model, yes? But Stephen would like to observe that despite these successes, there is NO open source business model.
Jeffrey would beg to differ! From data centers to the cloud, from self-driving cars to drones - open source software is everywhere. Major enterprise companies that are bottom-line driven are changing the way they participate in open source, starting to actively engage and contribute to open source projects - not just consume them as products. Having OS in your business model looks great, or does it?
Over the last year a major conflict has emerged between Cloud Platforms and VCs looking to make $$$ with open source.

Why open source is good for your economyDirk Riehle
On Feb 11, at FOSS 2019 in Muscat, Oman, I gave a talk about the benefits of sponsoring open source software development to about anyone who isn't the software vendor whose product is getting replaced by that open source software.
Open Source means a lot of things and revolutionized the way software is built over the last two decades.
Whether developing a product or providing a service, companies are rushing to get their businesses cloud ready, increasingly (big) data driven and flexible enough to take advantage of the inherent business scalability opportunities offered by the cloud.
And as the focus switches to the scale economies of execution, from ever cheaper opaque hosted web storage and connected services to the immutable containers movement, a question arises: what is the role of Open Source software in a world in which not only software (SaaS), but also platform (PaaS) and infrastructure (IaaS) are increasingly delivered (and consumed) as hosted services?
In this session, we'll attempt to answer to this question, by providing examples of Open Source cloud & big data companies and studying the effects of open development ecosystems and how Open Source is engrained in the fabric of the Cloud.

Open Source, not just savingsOpen Source, not just savings
Hi Paolo,
As I think I have said earlier I am happy for you to use our business case numbers as they were put in the public domain as part of us leading
the G-Cloud project on behalf of the Cabinet Office.
I obviously can not comment on your numbers, and obviously the disadvantages and benefits you refer to, both leading the same way I note,
are again your views not ours
In terms of slight update on the numbers we absolutely achieved the figures and in some areas exceeded and the savings were real savings
used to meet the budget savings for ICT in Warwickshire that we had to meet as part of the overall Council savings plan.
We have also seen benefits from the increased flexibility that Google has applied to collaboration and flexible working, including due to the
public cloud nature, but these have not been formally calculated as they are in the business rather than in the IT area.
Our Google implementation has also seen an increase in every single criteria that we measure as part of the SOCITM user satisfaction
benchmarking, the first time that we have ever seen this, and I am not aware of other councils recording this. Indeed this was at a time that
some other councils were seeing satisfaction fall as austerity savings bite.
And as I have mentioned previously we are very happy with our current Google implementation, and have no plans to change this in the near
future.
Thank you,
Tonino Ciuffini

Goals
• Extend the current Virtual Learning capability to wider courses, wider
audiences and across geographies
• Provide a truly virtual classroom in the cloud, enabling students to
learn in their own way, on demand, while maximizing limited lecturer
resources.
Challenges

• Needed centrally managed infrastructure across multiple campuses
Solution Highlights
• Created customized solution in partnership with local business
partners

firewall
• Created production-ready pilot with centrally managed VERDE
infrastructure, trivial to scale out
Today
• Rolled out on two campuses for faculty, 85 production users will start
the new year on VDI, ramp up to 1000 by 2014.
