There are two types of online learning: synchronous and asynchronous. Asynchronous learning does not require participants and instructors to engage at the same time, allowing learners to complete web-based training at their own pace without live interaction. Asynchronous learning involves a facilitator preparing course materials in advance, which learners can then access independently via email, discussion boards, web-based training, podcasts, computer-based training or DVDs.
