3. Prions Essay
Prions
Prions have been a mistery for scientists from the day they where discovered. Prions
act like viruses but they are not. Their structure and chemistry are unknown. They are
believed to be proteins but that is yet to be completely proved.
Prion stands for proteinaceous infectious particles . Prions are known to cause
many diseases involved with nervous systems like the brain. They are the ones that
cause the well known mad cow disesase in Britain and scrapie for animals. For
humans they are known to cause a rare disease in Papua New
Guinea called Kuru ( or laughing death ) which striked only the cannibals in the
Highlander tribes. Investigation led to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This protein was found to be a glycoprotein (PrP): sugars are bounded to the amino
acid, and it is half the size of hemoglobin. PrP is the protein, but we can also find
today PrPc (for cellular) and PrPsc (for scrapie). Prp can be found in steak ( skeletal
muscle) and also on the surface of lymphocytes present in milk, but there is no
evidence that the ingestion of this things can cause disease in humans , but there is
the still a risk.
Amyloid hypothesis.
Prions were found to form rods: long fibrils in brain tissues infected with scrapie and
Creutzfeldt Jacob disease. They believed that the fibrils can be distiguished from
amyloid; that they represent a filamentous animal virus causing scrapie and that they
are elongated form of prion rods. The most impotant aspect of these rods is the
resemblance to amyloid. Amyloid plaques in the central nervous system form
considered accumulations of waste formed as some sort of a disease process. This
plaques are believed to be aggregations of prions in an almost crystalline state. The
production of antibodies to PrP allowed to demonstrate that amyloid plaques in the
brain of scrapie infected hamsters contain prion proteins. This amyloid plaques have
been found on
Alzheimer s disease patients, which leads to the question if prions are related to that
disease. Although it has not been proven yet, the hypothesis is quite reliable. Can
prions infectivity be reduced or eliminated?
4. Drug Use And Drug Related Public Health Concerns Essay

Persuasive Essay
Countries all over the world are dealing with a rise of drug use and drug related
public health concerns. Many nations adopt vaguely similar methods of battling the
War on Drugs , from strict border control to harsh criminal punishments for drug
related offenders, violent or not. Even with these efforts put in place, many places
are not seeing the desired results. Drug use is mainly treated like a crime, and that
may be the problem. Countries that have concerns with rising drug use among their
citizens should follow Portugal in decriminalizing the possession and use of small
quantities of all illicit drugs.
Portugal was in the midst of a drug crisis. A large number Portuguese people that
returned to Portugal after the military dictatorship that ended in 1974 were using
drugs. (Thornton) Hard drugs were getting into the country easily due to open
borders. The country saw a surge in numerous public health concerns such as drug
abuse, addiction, overdosing, and new cases of HIV/AIDS. In 1999, nearly one per
cent of the population a hundred thousand people were heroin addicts, and Portugal
reported the highest rate of drug related AIDS deaths in the European Union.
(Spector) Initially, the government responded with traditional methods of drug
control policies that criminalized drug users harshly with prison and fines, (Aleem)
but the policies weren t working very well. The
6. The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective Teens
The purpose of Covey s The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens is to better mold a
teen s mind frame. Most teen s lives are crazy and have no order. These seven
habits help teens get control over their lives. The first part is the private victory,
followed by the public victory, and finally the renewal. If all of these habits are
applied, they will help all teens to be more successful and get more out of life. Habit
1 is all about being proactive, and taking charge of yourself. You can t keep blaming
everything else but yourself. You are in control of your attitude towards everything
that happens. In life s situations you have the choice of either being proactive or
reactive. Being reactive is allowing other people and things control you. Instead of
reacting to small stuff that have little or no control, proactive people focus on things
they can control. They separate their experiences from the circumstances. You are the
force of positive actions, and changing actions that aren t helpful is the best way to
take responsibility of your life. In addition, Habit 2 is about beginning with the end in
mind. This is where you create your own personal mission statement. Mission
statements help you focus, clarify what is important, and are a guide for decision
making. It can be about yourself, family, or about organization. Your future is
dependent on control, guidance, and rules. A solid foundation of your own principles
will help you be a leader. Furthermore, Habit 3 is about

the different ways of creating and developing new forms through careful discovery

The fixed form that is copy nature directly becomes forced. Balmond states that
instead that one should see what needs to occur is a change in paradigm: acceptance
of risk, and the building of internal processes that embrace conflict; that inexactness
in structure should be viewed as positive, giving separate understandings of a
singular structure on the basis of who is observing it, uses it or experiencing the space.
Than it starts to focus on the informal, it is the method which includes thinking and
doing that does not have distinct rules and fixed patterns. The informal does not
have a set of standards or rules and methods it can be copied and applied to acts of
making.
The informal is a result of interactions between relationships, the informal acts as an
agent of release and architecture are free from the traditional notions or rule of fixed
grid and locked in cage .
According to Balmond informal is a way of architecture shedding off the links of
previous design movements and concepts that helps in a way of exploring and
expanding the discipline. The informal is known as liberation for architecture.
Balmond then takes us on a survey of work in which he shows how the informal has
been applied and utilized for new advancement and exploration in architecture before
concluding with a discussion of new structure and new science.
By removing fixed rules, there

20th Century Inventions that Shaped America
Throughout history many inventions were invented, but did not have a lasting use
like the siege weapons of medieval times, they had there one use and when that uses
was no longer needed the invention was replaced. However, many things we use and
take for granted today were invented in the 20th century. The first invention to impact
the country was the wright brothers invention the airplane in 1903, the second
advancement in technology was from Fritz Harber in 1909 with the process of
ammonia synthesis, the third and final invention was from Henry Ford in 1913 with
the assembly line production process. These inventions may not have been looked at

lower the cost of production while increasing product output. Product output could
be raised if production time could be reduced according to Vaclav Smil Data from
Ford cost books show that 151 hours was needed to make a car in 1906, 39 in 1914 .
This reduction in time spent making one car increased the affordability of cars for
the common people. The price drop was pretty substantial prior to 1913 a car cost
$850 $875, but after 1913 the price dropped 35% to $550 then the next year it was

process of mass production not only worked for the automotive companies but
many other consumer items followed suite, so prices dropped and more people

also created jobs by requiring less skilled workers which helped boost the

Next in the long, tiresome quest for knowledge of The Flash, I decided to research
The Speed Force, because it will make it easier to understand the answers to the rest
of my questions. The Speed Force is the extra dimensional energy that once powered
all of the Flashes superhuman abilities. It is unknown to the people of the DC universe
where the Speed Force comes from, to them it is a great and powerful force that
affects everything. The Speed force can be used as a way of transportation, a
source of power or knowledge. Unfortunately, only some of the speedsters are able
to access it, for example Jay Garrick could not access the Speed Force later in life,
for Hermes did not have the authority to give him access to it. On the other hand,...

My sights have changed as I have gotten older. I no longer want to become a
medical doctor. I may in the far future decide to become a doctor but I would rather
be a registered nurse because they deal with the patients more. I also prefer
working with pediatric or gereatric patients. Whatever way that I decide to go I will
always be helping someone, somewhere. I have looked at many colleges. I find
myself lucky to be in Grand Forks, North Dakota. UND is an amazing school, with
a highly recommended nursing program. North Dakota is one of the only states
left that require a four year nursing degree. I looked in to going to the tech but
decided that it was not the right choice for me since I am planning to stay in North
Dakota. This would mean I would have to work in minnesota or take a job in North
Dakota and work under a different title with less pay and benefits. Another benefit
that accompanies going to a four year nursing program is if i wanted to higher my
education it would be in my best interest to have the extra two years behind me.
My next step in becomming a registered nursing is a little sidetracked. I want to be

have more responsibility but it will be worth it. Becomming a CMA will help me in
future classes at UND. I will have the backround of medications as well as a better

emotion that is followed by such occurrences. People who are experiencing negative
emotions more frequently are often times more likely to having nightmares or other
intolerable dreams. The journal also points out how many people who experience
nightmares also experience frequent dreamingin general. All the data contrived from
people who experience frequent nightmares found that these people experience a
wide variety of dreams that are usually triggered by a state of severe emotion.
Another form of dreamexperienced by such people is Day dreaming. The journal

Also, does giving the equipment to local law or SWAT forces outweigh the
outlook of over militarizing the local law forces intimidating the civilian

the Armed forces be able to sell equipment to foreign governments such as our
allies. This way you can get rid of equipment that will not be used anymore. I also
believe that they should sell to local state law enforcement and we should
preposition equipment for quick deployment of operations. I am talking about non

would say this should not be allowed by any circumstance. When it comes to the
sensitive and classified equipment, it should be destroyed when it is no longer usable

National Anthem Protests For the most part of 2016 and throughout the 2017
National Football League s season viewers have seen many protests from players
demonstrated by kneeling or holding a fist up during our country s national anthem.
The players are protesting because of African American discrimination and police
brutality which has become a very strong subject politically. There is a large debate
whether the players should be forced to stand to show respect to our country s flag
and the military personnel that have fought for it. The other side of the debate would
argue that players are peacefully protesting and therefore they are protected by the 1st
amendment. These two contradicting viewpoints have ignited tension within the
nation sparking a separation between either being patriotic for their country, or
opposing its values and foundation due to racial injustices within the African
American community. On August 14th, 2016 the National Football Leagueand its
fans witnessed something that had never been done before by a player. On that day
Collin Kaepernick of the San Francisco 49erstook a knee during the United States

individualise patient care. In the 1970s this became more structured when the nursing
process was introduced by the general nursing council (GNC), (Lloyd, Hancock
Campbell, 2007) .By doing this their intentions were to try and understand the patient
in order to give them the best care possible (Cronin Anderson, 2003). Through the
nursing process philosophy care plans were written for patients. It was understood
that this relationship would ensure the patient received the best care possible to suit
them individually. This would consist of not just the patient as a physical being but
their spiritual emotional and holistic being also (Cutler, 2010). The... Show more

Mr McCue says that he is drinking more often in an attempt to get a better night
sleep. However Vinson (2010) believes this could hinder the patient s sleep pattern

the person sleep but as the drinking becomes more intense it becomes a dependent,
where restless sleep is common and trying to get back to sleep is ineffective
(Vinson et al, 2010). Moreover Stein (2005) agrees and says alcohol has a massive
effect on sleep and the distribution of sleep. He acknowledges that alcohol can be
seen as a sedative to some. However like Vinson (2010) acknowledges the more
alcohol that is being consumed insomnia is likely to become a feature in the sleep
pattern. Moreover he goes on to say that if the nursing staff is alerted to this in a
timely fashion something can be done about it (Stein, 2005). In the care plan it has
been shown in the assessment that he drinks alcohol to enhance sleep but nothing
has been done to reduce this problem which may be linked to other factors.
Moreover in the assessment it has been shown that he does not feel rested on been

the brain and causes a dependence on the alcohol which in return disturbs sleep and
can leave people to feel un rested and moody(Stein Friedmann, 2005). Stein (2005)

Colonial architecture is a combination architectural style of a country that has been
adapted from the other countries characteristics, methods and influences. The
colonists built settlements and create hybrid designs that include their countries of
origin with the design styles. Europeans came to Southeast Asiaduring 16th century.
The colonial vision was effectively imposed on Southeast Asia. At the beginning of
the 20th century, most of the Southeast Asia countries were controlled by the British,
Dutch, French and the Americans. Under this colonial rule, the late 19th and early
20th centuries was a period of fast development of such as new architectural styles,
modern construction methods and techniques, railways, roads, etc. They changed the
configurations, construction and methods to make the buildings more sustainable
and maintained.
This essay focuses on the development of hybrid colonial architecture in early 20th
century in Southeast Asia. The essay investigates the different styles of buildings in
different locations and explains how these types of architecture combined both
European and local origins. It explains the Dutch style in Indonesia and the British

The competency project consisted of case studies. In these case studies you also
had a list of terms. The terms were to be analyzed by dividing them into three
component parts. Most medical terms are made up of three things. The prefix, root

Each term was to be broken down and then defined. Also you were to build one new
medical term from the terms that were on that specific case study. And the last thing
you had to do was define the abbreviation for each case study which had two.

how and for what they are being treated. Knowing written skills is also very
important. You will need to be able to communicate with other professionals in your

17. Maternal Mortality And Death Of A Pregnant Woman Essay
Introduction
Maternal mortality/death is defined as the death of a pregnant woman by causes
related to the pregnancy or its management, or death of a post partum mother within
42 days after pregnancy termination (Requejo, Bryce, Victora, Deixel, 2013;
Ronsmans, Graham, group, 2006; Say et al., 2014). There are proposals to change
this definition to make it include one year post partum death of mothers, as the risk of
death has been shown to remain high half a year post partum (Ronsmans et al., 2006).
Many maternal deaths that occur usually occur in low and middle income countries.
In the year 2010, 287, 000 maternal deaths that were avoidable occurred, and most
occurred in these developing countries. Reduction of maternal deaths has been one of
the outcomes that have been targeted in the efforts to improve maternal health for the
Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) (Say et al., 2014). In developing countries,
especially Sub Saharan Africa, where fertility levels remain high, maternal deaths
have continued to be high despite the general deaths reduction (Requejo et al., 2013).
Many argue that there is not enough information to confidently describe and quantify
this problem, but Requejo et al., 2013 reported that the available information is
sufficient.
The social issues
The causes of maternal deaths are both direct and indirect. Majorly, the causes of
maternal death are usually the aftermath of childbirth and pregnancy, and are majorly
contributed to by diseases and
18. The Prestige Film Analysis
Intro to Cinema Midterm The film The Prestige is one of many masterful Nolan
films that walks the line between being a meta film about the film industry, and
being focused on immersing the audience in the actual content of the film. At a
close inspection, comparisons to the film industry can be seen, but they are not so
obvious to distract the audience from the central conflicts that are at the forefront
of the film. The subject of the film could most easily be defined as surrounding the
topics of obsession or fame. More specifically, the obsession of fame, and the
illusion of happiness that fame projects. The main characters of the movie both
urn for the fame of being the world s most successful entertainer, even if for
different reasons. The editing of the movie allows for the audience to have a
unique perspective of how the events transpire. The non chronological order of the
film allows the audience to see the effects before the causes, and to see the
deception through a non linear lens. The events are lined up in a manner that is
more like the recollection of memories, than the linear nature of recorded film. By
using the two journals as a form of narrative we can see what we think is the inner
monologue of the different characters, or rather what about themselves they want to
reveal to each other. It is this nature of editing that allows us to slowly understand
the secretes of the film in a unique way. The film shows the answers to questions
before they are asked
19. Rene Descartes Argument For The Existence Of God
By basing his conclusions on knowledge that has been reasoned to be true through a
method reminiscent of a geometrical proof, Descartes effectively prevents himself
from attributing truth to something that is false. However, the structure of such an
argument is built on the assumption that Descartes s starting point is something
undeniably true and, assuming as such, the next truthwill organically stem from it.
Descartes uses this type of reasoning in his proof of God s existence and his
reasoning that the soul is inherently separate from the body, both found in
Meditations on First Philosophy. Rene Descartes s argument is multi layered, formed
in such a way that each subsequent layer depends on that one preceding it, but by

Descartes not only uses the methods of mathematical proofs but also uses
mathematical concepts themselves, like geometric shapes, to serve as an example of
something both clear and distinct. However, when translating the method some
adjustments must be made to ensure the structure of his argument. Descartes, in
explaining the qualities of a triangle, notes, I did not see anything in all [these
qualities] to assure me that there was any triangle in the world (Discourse, 20).
However, there is a fundamental difference between God and triangles. Descartes
highlights the differences with the idea of infinite perfection (Discourse, 24).
Descartes s argument for the existence of God is more deeply throughout in
Meditations on First Philosophy. He follows the same method, through starting what
is easily known and using that as the foundation for his argument. Descartes starts
with himself declaring himself [a] thing that thinks and reinforces that this idea is
obvious and could not be explained more clearly, similar to the concepts of math he
touches on earlier in his work (Meditations,

21. Samuel Becket s Waiting On Godot
In the times leading up to, during, and after World War I the world changed. As a
reflection of that change writers began experimenting with perspective, time and
order, form, etc. Literature wasn t as straightforward; there were metaphors within
metaphors, stories without clear beginnings middles and ends, poets used mixed
meters and free verse became common becoming what is known as the modernist
era. Around World War II the same thing happened again, but taken to the extreme.
This was known as the postmodern era and writers began to use their works to
convey their sense of how strange the world around them was. The works that will

22. The Use Of Hendra And Nipah Viruses From Genus
Henipavirus
Abstract
Hendra and Nipah viruses from genus Henipavirus are paramyxovirus that can
cause diseases that passed between animals and humans. These viruses are
responsible for causing diseases that occurs at irregular intervals at some places.
Like other paramyxovirus, henipavirus also have the ability to escape the host
immune response due to interferon protein; this is due to P gene. The P gene is
responsible for encoding four proteins C, P, V, W protein. Currently no vaccines or
therapeutic remedies are available which can prevent henipavirus infection. Ribavirin
which is used to treat various viral hemorrhagic fevers, in vitro studies of ribavirin
against both hendra and nipah virus shows effective inhibition of hendra and nipah
virus. The henipavirus have two envelope proteins F G glycoproteins; the G
glycoprotein is an attachment glycoprotein while F is the fusion glycoprotein. The
recent tactic to prevent henipavirus infection focused on direct medication by soluble
forms of F G viral glycoproteins to induce a protective immune response.
INTRODUCTION
Hendra virus (HeV) and Nipah virus (NiV) from genus henipa virus are zoonotic
paramyxovirus; they can cause disease which is passed between animals and
humans (1). Hendra virus was first detected in humans in Australia in 1994 with
horses as intermediate host. Fruit bats of Pteropous species of Australian flying fox
show serological evidence of early exposure to Hendra virus (2).

23. My Free Time Decoding Crosswords Essay
Ever since I was young, I have always been fascinated by the challenge of
completing a puzzle. I spent most of my free time decoding crosswords, sifting
through hundreds of pieces in order to find the one that fits perfectly in the missing
space, or analyzing the 9x9 cells of a game of Sudoku until I reached success. Poetry
is a conundrum that has an infinite amount of answers and interpretations, which is
one of the many reasons as to why it is such a special and unique form of art. The
way an author is able to address a topic of such depth and complexity with a limited
amount of words, to me, is a puzzle in itself. The challenge of comprehending and
identifying the various meanings within a single piece of poetry is one of the
many reasons why it is able to capture my undivided attention. Although I
appreciate poetry in all forms, slam poetry stands out to me the most. Having the
opportunity to hear a poem with all of the raw emotion that the author intended the
audience to feel as they were writing it is not something that should be taken for
granted. Hearing the rise and fall of the author s voice as they perform a poem
allows me to form a deeper connection with not only the poem as a whole, but also
the poet. The passion that projects out of Michael Lee s voice as he performs Pass
On, the anxious and innocent tone created by the short enjambment used by Gary
Soto in Oranges, and the way that Mary Oliver finds peace in the beauty of nature

Mortal Prowess: The Appreciation for the Human Civilization in the Shield of
Achilles
Book 18 of Homer s Iliad contains a detailed portrayal of the Shield of Achilles, made
by Hephaestus, the crippled blacksmith god, embedded with numerous animatic
images of human activities. Even though the shield is crafted through the hands of a
divinity, the ekphrasis emphasizes on appreciating the stunning and thriving mortal
life, demonstrating the potential of prosperity a human civilization can achieve
without having to equip the mighty prowess of the gods. By focusing on motion
and auditory details, the ekphrasis shows an appreciation and astonishment to
human civilization, establishing itself as a belonging to the mortal realm. Motion
verbs are used in the ekphrasis to capture detailed movements in human rituals and
activities, displaying the aptitude of mortal culture as well as the vibrancy of
human society. In the image of a circle of dancers, the phrase crisscrossing rows is
used to describe a specific formation the dancers take, followed by a rapturous
choreography a pair of dancers dash[ing] and [springing], / whirling in leaping head
springs, leading on the dance . Not only does the acrobatic description of the
choreography display the agility and strength of mortal humans, it is also an
indication of a sophisticated performance art culture, an endearing product of human
civilization created by and for mortal men. The vivid depictions of the choreography

There are also indications of increased financial fragility. Internationally, fragility
was evident in the run of financial crises that afflicted the global economy in the late
1990s and early 2000s, and it has surfaced again in the recent U.S. sub prime
mortgage crisis that spread to Europe.
Furthermore, there are serious reservations about the sustainability of the
financialization process. The last two decades have been marked by rapidly rising
household debt income ratios and corporate debt equity ratios. These developments
explain both the system s growth and increasing fragility, but they also indicate
unsustainability because debt constraints must eventually bite. The risk is when this
happens the economy could be vulnerable to debt deflation and prolonged recession.
These macroeconomic concerns are compounded by concerns about income
distribution. Thus, the era of financialization has witnessed a disconnection of wages
3
from productivity growth, raising serious concerns regarding wage stagnation and
widening income and wealth inequality (Mishel et al. 2007).
The financialization thesis is that these changes in macroeconomic patterns and
income distribution are significantly attributable to financial sector developments.
Those developments have relaxed constraints on access to finance and increased the
influence of the financial sector over the non financial sector. For households this has
enabled greatly
26. The United States Legal System
Introduction On January 18th, 2003 at 6:38 in the morning, a cirrus SR 22 aircraft
crashed near the city of Hill City, Nebraska. As part of these unfortunate turn of
events, both the pilot and owner of the aircraft subsequently died in the crash. It
would be later, that the estate of the two individuals, would take to court the Cirrus
DesignGroup, alleging that manufacturer had failed to either properly train, or
instruct the pilot on the operation of said aircraft prior to selling it to him.
Furthermore, it was alleged that Cirrus failed to give adequate instruction regarding
the recovering of unusual attitudes in flight, ultimately leading to the deaths of the
individuals on the aircraft that day when encountering weather... Show more content

However, in the case of Glorvigen V. cirrus Design Corp, the estate of the deceased
argued that it was the inherent duty of the manufacturer to provide adequate safety
training as a part of the requirement for duty to warn, prior to the execution of flight
practices.
Analysis
As it stands currently in the United States, a manufacturer may be held liable for any
harm their product causes due to defect, even without being in privity of contract
with the buyer. Additionally, the stance on negligence in the United States has
changed from being bases solely on the theories of negligence, breach of contract, or
breach of warranty concurrent with national shift towards strict liability in tort. This
case does well do demonstrate that we recognize the duty of either suppliers to
manufacturers to give adequate instruction, but the question now arises whether or
not it is the inherent duty to also train intended users in the safe operation of the
product by the manufacturer or supplier. In the state of Minnesota where the mishap
aircraft originated from, the duty to warn is applied in the following way; The
manufacturer has a duty to warn end users of a dangerous product if it is reasonably
foreseeable that an injury could occur in its use (Gary v. Badger Mining Corp, 2004).
The entailment of this duty is seen as giving adequate instruction unto the safe use of
said product, but ultimately leaves
27. Michael Ende s The Neverending Story
Translated into 35 different languages and adapted into a 1984 Hollywood classic,
Michael Ende s The Neverending Story (1979) enjoys a cult following worldwide.
The book deeply influenced young adult fantasy fiction in Germany by its story of
a timid, overweight boy whose becomes a hero by being an avid reader and a maker
of stories. The Neverending Storyis descendent of the Romantic Movement; a
protagonist as a reader who travels between reality and fantasy and awakens his
inner poet. Two decades later, two critically acclaimed books took and transformed
Ende s story: Inkheart (2003) by Cornelia Funke and The City of Dreaming Books
(2006) by Walter Moers. These three books describe a conflict between a reader and
book hating antagonists and
28. Photovoltaics in the United Kingdom
Chapter 2 Literature Review
The purpose of this chapter is to analyse previous publications and opinions of
Photovoltaics in the UK. The chapter will aim to address the issues highlighted in
the objectives of this paper. This chapter will form an essential basis for the research
in which comparisons can be made.
2.1 What are Photovoltaics?
Photovoltaic energy generation is the direct conversion of sunlight into energy. It
offers one of the few ways of generating electricity in urban areas that is free of
noxious emissions and noise.
Photovolaic materials, commonly known as solar cells, generate direct current
electrical energy when exposed to light. Mott Green Wall state that solar cells are
constructed from certain semi conducting materials that absorb solar radiation;
electrons are displaced within the material, thus starting a flow of current through an
external connected circuit. (Mott Green Wall, 2002, p43)
Figure 1 shows the basic process of how photovoltaic panels produce electricity.
Fig 1 The Power Producing Process (Battle, 1998)
The ability to generate electricity from sunlight is a relatively new and exciting
technology that offers many new opportunities in generating green electricity. This
technology is called solar photovoltaics or more simply, PV. PV offers the ability to
generate electricity in a clean, quiet and renewable way. It makes use of the abundant
energy from the sun, to generate electricity without the production of
29. The Dangers Of Texting And Driving
When cell phone use became prominent at the beginning of the twenty first century, a
new threat to public safety emerged: texting while driving. In 2007, 64% of US
adults admitted to using a cell phone to send text messages behind the wheel despite
the fact that 89% of the same group approved of laws that would ban the practice
(Richtel, 242). Cell phone users, even though they are aware that texting and driving
is dangerous, do so anyway. In A Deadly Wandering, released in 2014, Matt Richtel
demonstrates that the majority of drivers continue to distract themselves with their
cell phones because they simply cannot help it due to the contemporary and
inseparable connection between technology and the human mind.
One reason why texting and driving remains an enormous problem is that drivers are
constantly lured by technology. The rapid development and personal adoption of
technology beginning in the 1940s with radio and television and later in the 1970s
with personal computers was the foundation for an irreversible human link to
technology; these devices provided entertainment, information, and tools for
productivity. Beginning in the early 2000s, cell phones have become more attractive
to individuals because they fulfill social needs. Humans crave connection, and mobile
phones can provide it almost instantly through text messaging; with the rise in
popularity of texting, mobile phone owners consider text messaging a form of
communication just as normal as face to face

31. The Importance Of A Hero
ВЁHard times don t create heroes. It is during the hard times when the hero within
us is revealedВЁ Bob Riley. In other words, you are not born a hero, doing what you
think is right in bad situations is what makes you a hero and makes a hero shed their
true skin. Although most people think that a herohas a cape and tights, that is not
always true because a hero can be anywhere or anyone. What really makes someone
a hero is doing what s right to insure the safety and well being of others.
What is a hero? As stated in Kendra CherryВґs article, A hero is someone who

Once again from the daily telegraph, a hero is not always someone who is wearing a
cape, nevertheless someone who makes a difference in somebody s lives. Above all
heroes are not people who expect reward for actions and become a hero by chance,
but determination to help others.
All around the world there are heroes, everywhere you see there is someone who
has helped someone in need and has done the right thing. According to Art Green s
post in November, specifically one important hero is Master Sergeant Roy P.
Benavidez. He did something very extraordinary. He went on a very dangerous
rescue mission to save his military buddies; he was the only one to go. Additionally
went off with just a knife and a medic bag, he had to many with gunshot wounds all
around. He waited for a chopper, when it arrived the pilot got shot. He actually had
too fight off the Vietnamese army for six hours with the help of the army until the
other chopper arrived. When he got on the plane he collapsed, they all thought he
was dead until the doctor said he was still barely alive. In addition, he was went
through surgery and received the Medal of Honor by president Reagan. Another was
recognized not too long ago, according to CNN, Stephen Willeford did something
amazing. While someone was unloading on a church by his home, he grabbed his
gun and with another man he stopped the gunman and saved more lives from being
taken. Heroes aren t always people like those
32. The Fool Archetype
The Fool is the fifth card, based off of The Fool card in the major arcana of many
other tarot decks. Here, The Fool represents the conflict asexuals face when
coming out, that they do not understand their bodies, that they are confused, that
they are foolish. Other LGBTQ people face these challeges as well, but much
people know much more about being lesbian, gay, or bisexual than they do about
being ace. Of course that is not to say other LGBTQ folks do not face these
stigmas as much, the oppression just operates slightly differently. The archetype of

or being rejected (Islam 2016), which can be used in this case to represent the fear of

Asexual people do not exist to many in the world, and along with bisexuals,
pansexuals, polysexuals, nonbinary, intersex, and many other people, often receive
no recognition or acknowledgement. Asexuals have adopted dragons as a sort of
mascot, as the representation of not being real, not existing to people in the real
world. It is not only lack of representation, but denial of struggles, denial of
personhood, and strict adherence to binary categories. People who do not exist
within well known labels, such as gay or straight, are persecuted, mistrusted,
invalidated, and oppressed, sometimes by members of other oppressed groups.
When it comes to race, people of color are already underrepresented in the media,
and because asexuality is hardly present at all, asexual people of color are
especially rare to find. When asexual people are represented in the media, they
usually are not explicitly called asexual, or their lack of sexual attraction to others is
driven by emotionlessness, detachment, or apathy. The association with asexuality
and mental health disorders such as sociopathy fails to understand the key
component of asexuality, which is asexuals do not feel sexual attraction, and just
that. Asexuals can be completely able to feel romantic attraction, although some do
not. No part of the definition of asexuality says asexuals must be completely cold
and heartless. People are able to be kind and compassionate without forming sexual
or romantic bonds with other people. The Dragon card wishes for more visibility of
asexuality in the media, and more understanding and acceptance in
33. Verbal Irony In Animal Farm
Why is irony so commonly used? Animal Farm is about the Russian Revolution
where the animals take over the farm and overthrow their owner, Jones, who is a
human. They promise that they will never act like humans because Jones treated
them so badly but they break that promise. In George Orwell s novel Animal Farm,
the irony is used to show how power can corrupt those who have it. Throughout the
book he uses all three methods of irony to convey that idea. Dramatic irony is the
type of irony that is used the most and the type that is the most obvious, but
situational and verbal irony are used too.
First of all, verbal irony is when the speaker says the opposite of what they mean.
This is used in Animal Farm throughout the book as ... Show more content on

This third and final type of irony is constantly used in books and movies. In Animal
Farm, it is used to show the reader how corrupt the pigs are becoming, at times when
the other animals may not realize it. The author demonstrates when the pigs start
getting suspicious when Napoleon tells the animals: Nevermind the milk, comrades!
That will be attended to. The harvest is more important. Comrade Snowball will
lead the way. I shall follow in a few minutes (p.16). When the animals came back in
the evening they noticed that the milk had disappeared. This seems pretty obvious
to the readers that Napoleon is the one who drank all the milk but the other animals
would not even think of the possibility that Napoleon is the one that stole the milk.
Later, after Snowball had been kicked off the farm, Napoleon announced that he
found out that Snowball had been an ally of Jones since the beginning. At this
moment, he asks if any other animals knew about this and demanded that they step
forward. Napoleon then got his wild dogs to rip their throats out and he even
attempted to kill Boxer, the brave horse. A few days after this incident, the animals
recalled that the Sixth Commandment No animal shall kill any other animal had
been broken. But when Muriel read it, it ran No animal shall kill any other animal
without cause (p.61). It is obvious to the audience that this commandment had been
changed because if they flip back the book to the beginning, the original list of
Commandments are still there and the last two words without cause were not there.
The irony strongly displays that all this power given to Napoleon has gone to his
head, so much so that he has resorted to killing his

36. Two Kinds Figurative Language
Paulo Coelho once said Don t waste your time on explanations, people only hear what
they want to hear. The quote said by Paul Coelho connects to the story as a mood of a
life lesson within the main character (narrator) that goes through major struggles
throughout their life of trying to keep their mothersatisfied with their actions. The
mood shows how each thing changes throughout time and more. In the story Two
kinds by Amy Tan, the author uses figurative language and descriptive language to
develop the mood of the story.

A beginning would be when the narrator is taken to a beauty school by her mother,
she is given a haircut and states: Instead of getting big fat curls, I emerged with an
uneven mass of crinkly black fuzz. The author uses words such as Big fat curls
and Even mass of crinkly black fuzz to let the reader visualize the look of the girl.
This is an example of descriptive words. Another addition of descriptive words is
when the mother and daughter see a girl on television. The narrator states The girl
had the sauciness of a Shirley Temple. She was proudly modest, like a proper
Chinese Child . The words such as sauciness and modest describe how the girl on
the television seemed to look and act like. The descriptive words help the reader
understand what the narrator saw in this girl. It gave off an ashamed mood from
the narrator, since she herself could not satisfy her mother so easily. A concluding
example would be during the fight between the mother and daughter. She explains
how she reacted by announcing I was sobbing by now, looking at her bitterly. The
mood expressed by her bitter words set off a defensive mood, showing how she was
in tears and sobbing throughout the argument. This helps the reader get a visual of
how she looked like. The descriptive words throughout the story provided by Amy
Tan helps shape the mood of Two kinds by using.
In the story Two kinds by Amy Tan, the author uses multiple
37. Savagery And Civilization In King Kong
Savagery and Civilization: Not A Love Story Within society, we see a constant
struggle between savagery and civilization, whether that battle is fought within
oneself or among others, it exists nonetheless. This very struggle is a consistent
underlying theme throughout the 1933 film, King Kong. In the film, this battle
between two forces will be seen in Carl Denham s struggle with his persistent need to
make art and money versus the consequences his obsession might bring, in Kong s
attempt to resist the malignant temptations of beauty and finally, in the portrayal of
African Americans as savages and white people as educated civilians. In this essay,
we will further delve into the struggle between savagery and civilization, the

In this interpretation, the role of the beauty is played by the young and beautiful, not
to mention white, Ann Darrow, and the role of the savage beast is unsurprisingly
represented by the legendary god, Kong. One way in which King Kong displays his
own struggle between savagery and civilization, is in his lust for Ann. Although,
Kong is surely well aware of the barriers he will encounter by pursuing his desire
for Ann, he is unable to resist the temptations of her beauty. Thus, in spite of his
raw animal instincts, he continues to pursue an unrealistic relationship with Ann,
proving that even a beast like himself can recognize and appreciate genuine beauty.
We can again see Kong s battle between savagery and civilization when he is
forcibly taken to New York as the eighth wonder of the world but promptly escapes
to find Ann, the beautiful woman whom he loves dearly. However, instead of
simply finding Ann, his innate savagery gets the better of him and he ends up
destroying an entire city and harming innocent civilians. The final instance in which
we see the struggle between savagery and civilization in Kong himself, is in the
final scene of the film, where Kong attempts to save his beloved Ann from the top
of the Empire State Building. Despite his best efforts to stay atop the building and
rescue the damsel in distress, he can only be seen as a threat through the eyes of
those piloting the planes, thus, he is shot, causing him to fall to his death. In this
final scene we hear Carl Denham say, Oh no, it wasn t the airplanes. It was beauty
killed the beast. , which in my opinion, implies that it was in fact civilization that
triumphed over savagery. Though, King Kong unfortunately met his end, it wasn t
beauty that killed him, it was his own struggle between choosing civilization over his
inherent
38. Quotes From The Memory Keeper s Daughter
This quote is very important to The Memory Keeper s Daughter for a few reasons.
One reason this is important is because it represents David s deepest secret. David
s secret was the he told Norah that their daughter, Phoebe had died at birth when
actually she was born and living, but with Downs Syndrome. He gave her up to his
nurse, Caroline because he did not want to deal with the heartbreak of loosing a
child at a young age. David had mentioned that his younger sister had died at a
young age due to a heart condition. He knew that it was very common for a child
with Downs Syndrome to have a heart condition, so he made a split second decision
to give Phoebe up so he would not have to deal with the pain if she had died. This

How do our bodies and minds change from early to late adulthood?
As we age does our mind simply begin to deteriorate in the same fashion as our
body does in regards to it physical capabilities? Have you wondered what affect does
peri and post menopause have in relation to memory decline in women? Is dementia
directly related to cognitive aging? All of these conditions have one thing in common,
they all occur as the human body starts to age into late adulthood. Aging from early to
late adulthood has an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the body ages into middle adulthood which is forties to sixties other physical
changes take place. Physical change become noticeable, disease becomes more
prevalent, reaction time slows, eyesight diminishes, height begins to slowly decline,
and menopause occurs in women and the male reproductive system starts to slowly
change. In late adulthood which is sixties and beyond, height continues to decline, the
senses continue their gradual decline and become more noticeable, bone diseases,
cancer, cardiovascular diseases become prevalent and dementia eventually affects a
large proportion of adults. Under normal conditions a person cannot be prevented
from experiencing predetermined physical changes (Mossler, 2013). Another aspect
that changes with aging is cognitive development.
Cognitive development is a broad domain that refers to the development of the mind.
Cognitive processes are connected to the growth and decline of memory. Cognition
includes the basics of how we learn, make decisions and use language. Mental
cognitive development is effected by age as well. One of the reasons many think all
older people are in rapid decline is due to the availability heuristic. The availability
heuristic is a mental shortcut that causes people to make quick, incorrect judgments
based on limited information. Older people in decline get more attention than those
who are independent, so the available information

1. Do a search and find at least three (3) different definitions of literacy and/or
descriptions of types of literacy. Only one may come from a dictionary. These must
be significantly different from one another. List these here with sources properly cited
(APA).
Literacy has several definitions. It is defined as the ability to read and write
(Literacy, 2015, para. 1), and knowledge relating to a certain subject (Literacy,
2015). In academic terms, literacy is defined as the proficient ability to read and
construct meaning out of literature and content in school (Torgesen et al., 2007 as
cited in Correction to: Literacy, 2016). Whitehurst and Lonigan (1998) define
emergent literacy claiming, early literacy was used to refer to the conceptual
knowledge and skills that are developmental precursors to formal literacy
(Whitehurst Lonigan, 1998, p. 608 as cited in Chan, 2015). On the other hand, Lytle
and Wolfe (1989) define literacy through four metaphors: literacy as tasks,
reflection, practices, and skills (as cited in Walter, 1999). Digital literacy is defined
as the ability to utilize new media and the Internet as a means to connect and to
critically evaluate various kinds of digital
41. Allusions In Paradise Lost
The epic poem Paradise Lost is a story about the fall of Lucifer and a war between
him and noble God. The author uses allusions all throughout Paradise Lost including
divine references. Many of his allusions refer to the religious material of Adam and
eve, when they were analyzing their sins and the reasons why the humans lost their
Paradise . The author also uses many literary terms that shows sense of knowledge
and understanding. First, Milton the author of the story uses countless allusions
toward the bible. He begins the story analyzing a man s first sin, with Adam and eve
and the forbidden fruit. Of a Man s first disobedience, and the fruit of the forbidden
tree, whose mortal taste brought death into the world and all our woe (Milton). He
discusses how both Adam and eve went up against god by deciding to eat the
forbidden fruit which caused destruction and conflict in the world. He also explains

Milton describes Lucifer as being a cast out of heaven. The internal Serpent; he it
is, whose guile, stirred up with envy and revenge, deceived the mother of mankind
(Milton). Satan was very spiteful and stirred up a lot of mishaps before leaving
heaven. When Milton describes the center he is describing the earth, which is an
allusion. Milton also uses allusions in his other works, he opens the poem praying
to the Muse for guidance: Sing, heavenly Muse, that s on the secret top of Oreb

he starts his poems praying to Greek Muses. Milton describes ideas in his poem by
alluding to other literary works and epic poems. Also Delphi who is a very important
ancient Greek religious sanctuary scared to the god Apollo. She stated restore us, and

43. George Whitefield Conversions
The first sermon Marks of a True Conversion was spoken by George Whitefield.
The sermon s title promises an answer but WAS there an answer. This raised many
questions: How could the disciples be in some degree converted ? Why could they
give so little evidence of belonging to the kingdom ? How did Jesuswords apply justly
to both saints and sinners ? Am I a saint or a sinner? I believe I am a sinner, I think
everyone is a sinner. To be a saint you have to be sinless, which is impossible.
So far all Whitefield has mentioned was that the audience is filled with self deceived
sinners. And he speaks of what Jesus said, By their fruits ye shall know them. George
Whitefield also talks about how sinners dare not trust in church membership and
sinners dare not trust heads or hearts. He never came up with criteria. This was a
return to the testimony of conversion : New England Congregationalism, beginning
in 1633, which led to the half way covenant in the 1660s. Followed by undermining

ABSTRACT The Radio frequency identification (RFID) technology has been broadly
adopted in access control systems. This technology is based on the use of a card or
tag and has some major drawback or weaknesses that is anyone could get access
when he or she steals the card. In this particular paper, the RFID technology is

The RFID technology consists of three key elements: RFID tags, RFID readers,
and a back end database server to identify information. The RFID tag stores its
particular ID and some application data for RFID readers thus the tag contains
electronically stored information which is used for access control system. The
major advantage of using the RFID tag is that it allows convenience contactless
access. However, the traditional RFID based access control system identifies an
individual only by means of his or her RFID card that is anyone who presents a
registered RFID card will pass the authentication even he/she is not the genuine card
holder or owner. Moreover, there are many RFID attacks which are:
Sniffing this is reading data from a RFID chips without being given a permission;
Spoofing this is the cloning of information from one chip to another
Tracking this involves the tracking of goods or services without acknowledging the
owner.
Denial of Service this involves the jamming of RFID signals to block its normal

Energy of the Acoustic Guitar
Energy is the capacity of a physical system performing work. It exists in an
abundant amount of forms such as sound, electrical, chemical, gravitational, and
kinetic. Sound is the movement of energy through a medium, typically air or water,
that travels in waves due to vibrations caused by an object or person. Har Mose, the
Ancient Egyptian singer who owned the oldest known preserved guitar like
instrument found 3500 years ago would never know what his creation evolved into.
The guitar is an ancient noble instrument whose history can be traced back thousands
of years. The acoustic guitar today has a flat backed rounded body that narrows in
the middle, a long fretted neck and usually six strings requiring no electronic
amplification. The acoustic guitar has had a major impact on society as scientific
research has proven that playing an instrument can lead to an increase in confidence
and cooperation, both valuable skills. In most music genres the guitar is known to be
the most prominent instrument played. Every type of acoustic guitar produces a
unique sound from the material of the string, composition of the body and the air
between them. This makes the acoustic guitar one of the most popular instrument as
it is adaptable with its vibrant sounds and energy it produces. The acoustic guitar is a
very energetic instrument because of the physical structure of the guitar, the intensity
of the sounds, the way the human ear perceives the sounds and how

An Analyzation of Deflation and Inflation Whether the world sees falling prices or
rising prices is a day to day change. These rising and falling prices are known as
inflation and deflation. Inflation is an increase in all of the prices of goods and
services in the economy, while deflation is the decrease of all prices. These price
changes are written about in hundreds of articles everyday all around the world. I
recently read two articles published by The Economist while compiling information
for this paper. The articles were on the recent shifts in our global economy into
deflation, despite our need and want for a gradual inflating economy. The first of
these two articles, titled The high cost of falling prices; Deflation used... Show more

Gasoline prices can be directly related to oil. In 2014, a barrel of Brent crude cost
$110, but in 2015 it cost only $60 ( The high cost of falling prices; Deflation.
Economist. 21 Feb. 2015: 69. eLibrary. Web. 22 Mar. 2016.). The barrel of crude
oil was hence cut by 45% and in America the price of gasoline has fallen by 35% (
The high cost of falling prices; Deflation. Economist. 21 Feb. 2015: 69. eLibrary.

gasoline, their prices correlate meaning that when one price shifts downward the
other will follow. Crude oil and gasoline are not the only products that have seen a
decrease in value in the past few years. All around the United States and in many
other areas of the world, the value of products are being slashed. Companies who
manufacture new cars are being put up against deflation around the world. The
price market for new cars has fallen and dealers of vehicles now have no incentive
to innovate and increase safety standards. Many may now face the question of
why and how to stay in business. The price of new cars is flat in Britain, slowly
sliding in Portugal and tumbling in Greece, where a new motor is nearly 20%
cheaper than in 2005 ( The high cost of falling prices; Deflation. Economist. 21 Feb.

To truly improve your ability in the four emotional intelligence skills, you need to
better understand each sill and what I looks like in actions (Bradberry Greaves, pg.

of emotional intelligence has increased. Self awareness strategies that I followed to
understand myself more was that I took the time to ask people I know to provide
feedback about myself, spot my emotions in films, and know who and what pushes
my buttons. Although there are many other strategies, these were just several that
helped see who I am. My social awareness has improved where I can read people and
tell a certain situation did not go well. By following some of these strategies; stepping

50. Medea And Antigone Character Analysis
Both of the plays Medea and Antigone have tragic themes and their main characters
are women who find themselves unhappy and so decide to act on behalf of these
feelings. In both cases the result is a climax at the end of the play in the form of
several deaths. One of the main reasons they decide to act is because they find it
difficult to cope with competition of other women. Both Jean Anouilh in his play
Antigone and Euripidesin his play Medeahave based their tragic plots on the roles of
jealousy and spite and the extremes they can make a person go to. In my analysis I
will first look at the effects competition has on both Medea and Antigone, in
particular jealousy. After this, I will discus the aspirations both women have as a
result of feelingjealous and how other characters in the play see them. Finally I will
look at how the two characters act on impulse of their jealousy and compare what it
leads to in each play.
When talking about the character s jealousy it is important to first determine who is
the cause of these feelings. In both cases, we could say it is other, in the characters
opinion rival , women. In Antigone s case, the jealousy is aimed mainly at her
radiant and beautiful sister Ismene. Ismene is not only the more beautiful of the two
sisters, but she is also more favoured and admired by the others.

51. The Brain And Its Impact On Behavior And Cognitive
Function
I have always had a passion and interest in working with the unknown. When I was
in high school, I always made sure I was taking science classes that interested me,
and would help me decide on what I wanted to major in college. I chose neuroscience
as my major because it is a subject that continues to fascinate me. Neuroscienceis the
study of how the nervous system develops, its structure, and what it does. I wantto
focus on the brain and its impact on behavior and cognitive functions. I want to go
into clinical neuroscience (looking at the disorders of the nervous system) or
cognitive neuroscience, which studies the higher cognitive functions and
underlying neural bases. With a neuroscience major, I would like to pursue a
career in clinical research, do research for the National Institute of Health, work for
the CDC and specialize in neurological disease, and/or run a clinical research
project in another country. I want to pursue a career in one of these areas because
I want to dedicate my knowledge, skills, and time to helping people and the world
of science. I want my work to make a positive impact on society and be beneficial
for the forthcoming generations. I want to help people and discover new things that
will help those in need. I am motivated every day to continue working hard by
realizing there are still more things to be discovered and that it could be done by me.
When I took the learning styles test presented to us in our first assignment, my results

54. Nichiren Diashonin s Buddhism
Faith 24x7
Section 1
Introduction
Happiness in not a life without problems, but rather the strength to overcome the
problems that come our way. There is no such thing as a problem free life;
difficulties are unavoidable. The manner in which we experience and react to our
problems depends on us. Buddhism teaches that we are each responsible for our own
happiness or unhappiness. Our vitality the amount of energy or life force we have is
in fact the single most important factor in determining whether or not we are happy.
We can never find happiness if we don t challenge our weaknesses and change from
within.
The practice of Nichiren Buddhism empowers us to increase our life force, overcome
our weaknesses, face our problems, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nichiren writes: [Myo] is simply the mysterious nature of our life from moment to
moment, which the mind cannot comprehend or words express (WND 1, p. 4.).
The three attributes of myo are: to open, to be fully endowed and to revive. Ho is
the Dharma or Law, and together the two characters of myoho refer to the Mystic
Law. Myo and ho are also identified by Nichiren as corresponding to life and death,
which Buddhism regards as the two aspects myo, latent and unseen and ho, active
and manifest of a deeper life continuum.
Renge is the lotus flower. The lotus blooms and produces seeds at the same time
and symbolizes the simultaneity of cause and effect. The circumstances and quality
of our individual lives are determined by the causes and effects, both good and bad,
that we accumulate through our thoughts, words and actions at each moment. This
is called our karma . The law of cause and effect explains that we each have
personal responsibility for our own destiny. We create our destiny and we can
change it. The most powerful cause we can make is to chant Nam myoho renge kyo.
As we chant, the effect of Buddhahood is simultaneously created in the depths of our
lives and will definitely manifest in time. The lotus flower grows and blooms in a
muddy pond, yet remains pure and fee from defilement.
Kyo represent sutra, the voice or teaching of a Buddha. It also means sound, rhythm
or vibration.
The Power inherent in the characters Nam myoho renge kyo is
