2. Why One Direction
• We chose One Direction because they are a
talented band from England. They went to
the show called X Factor and performed a
song.
3. Music they play
• One direction are a British boy band
consisting of members Nial Horan, Zayne
Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Style and Louis
Tomlinson.
• The genre they sing is dance-pop, teen pop,
pop rock and power pop, which has rock
and electro-pop influences.
• They have done cover songs by other
artists such as Pink, Coldplay, The Beatles,
Rhianna, Snow Patrol and Elton John.
4. Music career
• In 2010 the individuals of One Direction
all auditioned for the seventh series of X
Factor, but they all failed to qualify in the
‘Boys’ category. X Factor judge Nicole
Scherzinger suggested they form a boy
band, which would qualify them for the
‘Group’ category.
• Harry Styles came up with the name of
‘One Direction’.
• One Direction finished X Factor in 3rd
place.
5. Awards and
highlights
• 2011 One Direction signed with Simon Cowell’s
record company ‘Syco Records’ for 2 million
pounds.
• November 2011 One Direction signed with
Columbia Records in North America.
• February to April 2011 toured with X Factor Live
Tour in U.K.
• Debut album ‘Up All Night’ released in the U.K and
U.S.A in September 2011.

• May 21 2012 of this year, One Direction
have sold 2,060, 303 digital downloads in
the U.S.A.
• 21 February 2012 One Direction received
BRIT Award for Best British Single.
7. What they are doing now...
• They will be embarking on an arena tour
in 2013.
• April 2012, One Direction are being sued
for using the same name as an American
band of the same name. The U.S band has
had the name since 2009 and recorded 2
albums. One Direction are expected to
make for Sony music, in excess of 100
million over the next year, such is their
global success.
