AP PSYCHOLOGY
YOUR LOT IN LIFE PROJECT
As we progress through the lifespan, none of us is absolutely certain as to what course our life might take. This assignment is designed to simulate challenges you may face in your own future life and to better prepare you for overcoming potential obstacles. Additionally, it will allow us, as a group, to provide information that others in the community may access when searching for help on their topic.
In the assignment, Your Lot in Life, each of you will be randomly assigned a unique life experience that may occur during childhood. Your assignment is to gather information about your topic (or "lot" in life) from both scholarly and community sources as well as the internet. You will compile this information into a report that will be put together with reports from other students to create the guide. The goals of the assignment are:
1. To give you an opportunity to become familiar with research that has been conducted on your life issue.
2. To give you practical experience in locating likely sources of information and support from the community.
3. To give you practical experience in locating likely sources of information and support from the internet.
4. To get you to evaluate the choices available to individuals who share your life circumstance.
5. To get you to think about how your issue relates to the period of the lifespan in which it occurs.
The research for this lot:
Today you will receive your "lot" in life by random assignment.
1. You will be required to find 3 articles on your topic:
One general article – This source should describe the disorder/condition that has been assigned as your lot. This can come from a book chapter or an article that reviews the literature. These articles do not have methods sections in them. You must include a copy of the book chapter/article that you use.
Two empirically based articles from two different scholarly journals (i.e., data has been collected, they contain a “methods” section, and there is a list of references at the end). Most articles can be found in the online databases, Psycinfo and Ebscohost. If you use Ebscohost, you must select “peer reviewed” articles. Try MEL.
You must attach copies of the articles to your term paper when you turn it in. YOU MUST INCLUDE ARTICLES FROM THREE DIFFERENT JOURNALS (THE JOURNALS DON’T HAVE THE SAME NAME). IF YOU USE A BOOK CHAPTER AS YOUR GENERAL ARTICLE THE REMAINING TWO ARTICLES MUST COME FROM DIFFERENT JOURNALS.
2. Find two agencies in the community and three internet websites that can help you in meeting the challenges of your life issue. You must turn in some written material from EACH agency and a print-out from each internet website when you turn in your term paper. You may not have an agency count for both an internet source and an agency – it must be one or the other.
3. Consider how the lot impacts three areas of development. For example, how are cognitive, physical and social deve.

Research Essay Assignment
Your research paper is the “capstone” project for this course and, as such, counts as
25% of your course grade for ENG 101. This project will be based upon one of the
readings from Unit 3 and supplemented by useful, relevant information located
through research. Continue to build on the skills and strengths you’ve been
developing in your first two essays and, as always, draw upon your work in our
discussions of these texts.
Essay Format Requirements:
The essay must be at least 1,000 words in length. (NOTE: The Works Cited page
does not count in this total.)
The essay must follow MLA format for citing research sources, both in the essay
paragraphs and on a Works Cited page.
Number the pages.
No need for a separate cover sheet.
Make sure that you do not use first person (I, me, my, myself, etc.) or second
person (you, your, yourself, etc.) references in the essay.
Research Requirements:
You must quote or paraphrase from at least three (3) research sources but
researching more sources is preferable to having only three sources that you
have researched.
Important: The readings selections in the course text (World Views) and video
resources in the course Content cannot count as research sources for the essay.
You can certainly use these resources in the essay, but you will need to find at
least three (3) research sources outside of these resources.
The library’s online databases are very good resources for finding research
articles. You are responsible for ensuring that your sources are authoritative
enough to be credible. Keep in mind that general web sites often are not nearly
as credible as published articles that you can find in the college’s research
databases. Web sites like “Ask.com” or other such general information sites are
not effective research sources for a formal essay. When in doubt, move on to
another source or – if you really need the information – ask me for guidance.

The mission of TASSC is to end the practice of torture wherever it occurs and to empower survivors, their families and communities wherever they are,” according to the "What Is TASSC"? page on their website. These are survivors who became advocates for the coalition. They work very closely to the UN and human rights groups worldwide. The coalition is “a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization and operates independently of any ideology, government or economic interest”. I think the r.

Literature Reviews
Planning and Writing Them
1
You’ve done the hard part!
You did your secondary research with your annotated bibliography
Now, take that research and compile it into a cohesive, useful narrative that explains the “conversation” around the topic you’re going to be looking into
2
What is a lit review?
Lit reviews usually are at the beginnings of research articles
Summarize the “conversation” on the subject and establish why your study is important
Look at Zakreski article, Greene article – see in the beginning of their articles, they summarize and explain what others have had to say about the topic
Your annotated bib should easily transition into what will be the first part of your paper, the literature review.
Duggar has lots of citations; 16 in her bib. She talks about lots of different ideas here to lay the groundwork for what she is going to do
Greene has fewer, but has more to say about them
3
Three functions of a lit review
Your literature review will become the first part of your research paper. Thus, it should do three things:
Include a short introduction that defines or identifies the general topic, issue, or area of concern, thus providing an appropriate context for reviewing the literature (this is called establishing a territory)
Synthesize other research on the topic, explaining what is known about it
Conclude by stating what is missing, what is controversial, what is not yet known, or what needs to be resolved in the discussion. This will provide the transition later to your own study and your research questions (this is called “establishing a niche”)
4
How do I write it?
Your literature review should synthesize all the information from your annotated bibliography
You can organize the information chronologically
You can organize the information by topic
by least-most recent studies or vice versa; clump everything by what was found, what
5
How do I write it, con’t
Your lit review should have an intro, body, and conclusion
This is not true of ALL lit reviews, but it is a good general rule to follow
The intro will serve at the intro to your paper
The body will establish the “conversation”
The conclusion will serve to transition your paper into a discussion of your study
The body can (and probably should) have multiple paragraphs, based on how you’ve organized it
6
About the conclusion
In the conclusion, you want to establish why your study is important
You need to somehow point out a gap in the knowledge, a question you have about other research, or a counter-point you want to raise
If you can’t prove that your study authentically adds to the conversation, then you really shouldn’t be doing the research

Research Paper Options and Guidelines
For the individual final paper, students can choose one of the following four options (A, B, C, and D).
All papers should be a minimum of (6) typed pages and a maximum of (10) pages.
In addition to your 6-10 pages,
please include a title page, a table of contents, and reference pages.
At least 2/3 of the references should have been published within the last 5 years.
Papers should be in APA format, double-spaced using Times New Roman, size 12 for the font.
Option A:
The purpose of this final paper is to enhance your knowledge and understanding of normal development during adolescence or adulthood. You should select a developmental task (or tasks) appropriate for either adolescence or adulthood.
For example, the development of an identity is a task that typically occurs during adolescence in Erickson’s theory of psychosocial development. You should review the literature related to this developmental task and write a comprehensive literature review that addresses not only the traditional views and theoretical explanations for this task, but also explores non-traditional explanations as well. For example, if you choose the issue of spousal abuse, you must address the traditional views outlined in the literature which define the cause and role of battering in interpersonal relationships including the alternative view of some theorists that violence in relationships can be viewed as acceptable behavior.
In so doing, you must identify the value systems underlying both traditional and alternative views on the issues. Your literature review may focus on normal development in adolescence or adulthood, or abnormal development.
Illustrating your literature with case examples, either from your field experiences or the literature is required.
For example, you may focus on abnormal development in adolescence, providing a case example of how teenage pregnancy, substance abuse, or depression may derail the normal development process.
Additionally, each student will be responsible for interviewing a MSW faculty member who has experience with your topic to learn how the individual applies and integrates knowledge and values relating to human behavior and the social environment in their practice with clients with your selected developmental task.
The student must also discuss the implications of the research for social work practice and social policy. (See Objectives 1, 7, 8, 11, 12).
If you should use a work experience or field experience, please protect the identity of all individuals involved by changing the names, dates, and locales to protect the innocent persons involved.
Option B:
Use developmental/ecological theory to address a psychosocial problem.
Problem description
: Identify a psychosocial problem, e.g., a phenomenon of psychosocial pain or distress, experienced in a particular population group, in particular individuals, or in families. Based on 5-10 background readings, articl.

Respond to Peers:
Review your classmates’ posts, and respond to at least two of your peers. When responding to your classmates, please provide feedback on their examples of good and poor critical thinking skills. Discuss additional ways one can think more critically. Each participation post should be a minimum of 75 words.
CANDICE’S POST:
Explain at least five elements of critical thinking that you found in the reading material.
1. Identification, which is described by Erstad (2018), figuring out what the issue is and what is contributing to the issue.
2. Information Seeking, finding facts that are able to back up the information with statistics reliable sources. This helps to solidify the data provided is legitimate and can be proven (Critical thinking skill. n.d.).
3. Identifying biases. Seeing the information from both sides. No matter what I believe, I need to provide the other side of this information, so I am not forcing my opinion on the matter, onto others.
4. Predicting. Being able to provide solutions and preparing for the possible outcomes. Planning based on the outcomes I believe might happen.
5. Curiosity. Having curiosity can help you dig deeper into the issue. “All it takes is a conscious effort to ask open-ended questions about the things you see in your everyday life, and you can then invest the time to follow up on these questions” (Erstad. 2018. Para. 23).
Search the Internet, media, or the Ashford University Library, and find an example in which good critical thinking skills are being demonstrated by the author or speaker. Summarize the content and explain why you think it demonstrates good critical thinking skills.
Religion, conflict, and resolution (ABA. n.d.), is the article I chose to represent good critical thinking skills. It identifies the issue of a person’s perspective of religion and the discussion of such causes conflict because not everyone views religion the same. It seeks information from sources who are considered knowledgeable in the field of conflict resolution. This article addresses the issue from both sides, digs deeper and finds their issues with religion most likely are personal views. They also suggest learning more about other religions, although you still may feel the same, you can become more versed in their religion so you can understand their point of view.
Search the Internet, media, or the Ashford University Library, and find an example in which the author or speaker lacks good critical thinking skills. Summarize the content and explain why you think it demonstrates the absence of good, critical thinking skills

Unit 3: Synthesis Project
You will be creating an AP Exam Synthesis Question. The Synthesis Question gives you several sources and asks you to combine (synthesize) them with your own thoughts to create a cohesive essay. This is the same goal as a research paper. Your question (prompt) and sources should be formatted, labeled, and presented as on the AP Lang Exam. This will be modeled after the ones in the sample packets you were given.
Source Requirements:
· 8 sources
· No sources older than 10 years
· At least two sources published within the last two years (2020, 2021, 2022)
· Provide 1-2 sources that are images (political cartoons, graphs, charts, etc.)
· Sources should demonstrate a range of positions and approaches to the topic. Your goal is to figure out what 2-3 of the main “sides” are in the debate around the issue and represent those sides fairly.
Research Resources:
· Use this
link to access academic databases through CPS and Lane.
Example topics:
· Security vs Privacy: Personal Rights
· Standardized Education Movement
· Parenting Styles of the 21st Century
· Why Movements Matter: Voices of the People
· Technology’s Impact on American Families
Project Requirements:
Include, neatly formatted in one document
· Prompt page with directions, introduction, and assignment
· 6 sources
·
MLA citation of each source
· 3 potential thesis statements for this essay
a. One that is open
b. One that is closed
c. One that is a counter argument thesis.
· Choose one thesis statement, and create an outline of a response to ensure that others can synthesize these sources.
The most effective Synthesis Prompts give the test-takers a wide variety of sources to consider. These sources are of various types, lengths, and opinions. This diversity allows each test-taker to choose their own individual approach to the assignment while providing them with the tools to adequately synthesize into their paper.
You are going to choose EIGHT sources specific to your assigned topic. This will ensure that your group will be providing sources that show the complexity of the issue.
Therefore, when choosing your sources, keep several guidelines in mind:
1. Choose sources that cover a variety of viewpoints on your assigned topic, making sure to keep the sides evenly represented.
2. Choose sources from a wide variety of locations and formats. Use the list below as guidance; it is certainly not all-inclusive. Requirements are in CAPITAL letters. Beyond those required types, you may choose the rest of your sources at your discretion.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

1. ON THE ORIGINS OF VIOLENCE
ON THE ORIGINS OF VIOLENCE Case Assignment The literature has identified many origins
of violence. Your task is to write a 2-page paper discussing the origins of violence in the
following case scenario. A much publicized case is that of the shooting in Newtown,
Connecticut. Search for articles and newscasts about the story. There are three main tasks
for this assignment: 1. First, compare and contrast one biological explanation of why this
event occurred. Then, provide one alternative sociological (i.e. social) explanation of why
the event occurred. 2. State your position on which explanation is more reasonable in this
scenario. 3. Describe one effective strategy to reduce this type of violence. Assignment
