Oilfield operations generate data from thousands of sensors per site measuring temperature, pressure, flow from pumps, actuators, and valves. This data is collected by remote communication devices like RTUs and PLCs and sent via satellite, cellular, or radio links to multiple SCADA networks with OPC servers that can number up to 20 for large basins. The SCADA networks then send the data through additional links to historians that log the time series data and history, and onto corporate systems and Hadoop platforms that serve as systems of record and analytics platforms. These platforms analyze the real-time data alongside other datasets.
