- MSUglobal who we are small unit what we do spearhead OER initiatives on campus (among other things) what we’re not OER publishing unit dedicated unit for OERwhat we don’t have funding solely for “OER at MSU” staff solely for OERwhat we do have nominal support and backing from administration in terms of staff… me ; )
- what are we talking about here today… OER growth at MSU in terms of awareness use creation so with limited funds and resources, how do we do this? openness advocacy talk about it teach people about it provide ideas provide supporthow do we “piggy-back?” we don’t go after funding for large OER projects we help people integrate an OER piece to current programs, projects, and proposals we utilize existing support infrastructure
- why do we do it this way? even if we wanted to, there is no more funding for big OER projects (esp. for higher ed) we believe in the importance of OER and recognize the need for the university to take steps to embrace it it’s more sustainable it’s ground-up as opposed to top-down when it works, there is faculty buy in and a paradigm shift occurs
- so how do we actually go about doing it… talk about it always looking for opportunities teach people about it go to staff meetings, meet with faculty customize the presentation for the audience provide ideas consult on how OER can be incorporated into programs, projects, and proposals OER not just as content, but as a process create plans of action provide support help implement the plans (at least initially) grant proposal support technical support working with an existing support unit on campus (vuDAT) to develop platforms and tools that can meet the needs of various groups who want to do OER
