-Diversidade de tipos de formacións vexetais.
-Bo estado de conservación dos bosques con abundantes árboles vellos de gran tamaño
-Elevadísimo número de especies endémicas de flora e de fauna.
-Espectaculares monumentos xeolóxicos, como os Roques.

As Illas Galápagos están situadas no Océano Pacífico, arredor da liña do Ecuador, a 972 kilómetros da costa de Ecuador, país ao que pertencen.
É un arquipélago formado por 13 grandes illas volcánicas, 6 illas máis pequenas e 107 rochas e illotes.
A UNESCO declarou as Illas Galápagos como PATRIMONIO NATURAL DA HUMANIDADE en 1979 e como RESERVA DA BIOSFERA en 1985. Desde 2007 están declaradas PATRIMONIO DA HUMANIDADE EN RISCO MEDIOAMBIENTAL e están incluidas na LISTA DO PATRIMONIO DA HUMANIDADE EN PERIGO.

Inclúe o tramo costeiro entre a Punta do Castro (Porto do Son) e a Punta do Francés, no Cabo Corrubedo; a costa desde o comezo da praia Ladeira ata a Punta Falcoeiro e as illas da boca da ría de Arousa ata o arquipélago de Sálvora, así como as áreas mariñas próximas o e sistema dunar e húmido de Corrubedo e as lagoas de Xuño e San Pedro de Muro ou Basoñas.
É un espazo cun grande valor ecolóxico, paisaxístico e histórico-etnográfico.
