This document discusses trends in obesity among US adults between 1985 and 2008 based on data from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System. It shows that between 1990 and 1999, the number of states with obesity prevalence over 15% increased, and between 1999 and 2008, nearly all states had prevalence over 20% and some over 30%. The data comes from annual phone interviews conducted by state health departments to monitor health conditions and behaviors.
