Background – Why NGO Mania?
 • There is no comprehensive database of registered civil society organizations
 in BiH
 • Estimates range between 6,000 and 12,000 but no one really knows
 • Nobody knows how many of these CSOs are active and nobody has a clear
overview of who does what, where and how
 • A few CSO databases exist but they are incomplete, they are not updated, and
 are really basic.

The Initial Vision - What is our goal?
Our goal is to promote civil society partnering and volunteering.

… But to find partner organizations or organizations to volunteer
for, one needs to know where the organizations are located and
    what they do.
QuickTime™ and a
                                        decompressor
are needed to see this picture.

The initial concept – How will it work?
NGO Mania is a crowd-sourced, map-based database of CSOs
  and CSO projects

  • CSOs fill in and maintain their own profile
  • Different filters enable civil society actors to search through
these profiles and to access the contact details of the
  organizations they are looking for
QuickTime™ and a
                                     decompressor
are needed to see this picture.

Customer segments – Who will use the
site?

   • Civil society organizations

   • Civil Society activists / people wanting to volunteer

   • International organizations /donor institutions

Market evaluation

        •Civil Society Organizations

•Civil society activists / people wanting to volunteer

        •International organizations /donor institutions

Hypothesis – What we believed?

   1. Civil Society actors are interested in finding out more about
        civil society organizations and projects

   2. CSOs are interested in sharing and uploading information on
        their projects
QuickTime™ and a

Face to face interviews – How we checked
our hypothesis?

We conducted 22 face to face interviews
           • 12 civil society organization staff
           • 5 young activists
           • 5 international organizations’ staff

Insights – what we learned?
  1. There is a strong interest in such a database from all customer
segments, which found the tool useful for the following reasons:

              CSOs
              - find partner organizations
              - find volunteers
              - promote their projects
              - find info on ongoing projects
              - find info on other CSOs
QuickTime™ and a
                                  decompressor
are needed to see this picture.

              Individuals
              – find info on CSOs
              – find info on ongoing projects
              – find volunteering opportunities

              International org / Donor institutions
              – find out about projects
              – find partners

Respondents however expressed concerns about the amount and
quality of information that can be generated using a crowd-sourced
model.

are needed to see this picture.

2. CSOs expressed an interest in uploading their own profile. With
limited staff and resources, however, they expressed fears of not
being able to regularly update the information.

Overall, we learned that there is a demand for such
information. The problem is in ensuring that this information is
made available and regularly updated.
QuickTime™ and a
                                     decompressor
are needed to see this picture.

Outcome – Revised hypothesis
Based on what we learned from f2f interviews, we reflected on
how to encourage CSOs to regularly update their content.

We came up with two new hypothesis:

   1. The more CSOs are drown to the website, the more they are
   likely to update their data

   2. CSOs will update their content it is worthwhile for them to do
   so.

are needed to see this picture.

Outcome – How we revised our plans?

How do we drew CSOs to our website?
           >> We add additional features to turn NGO Mania into
           the n ー 1 go to page for CSOs (i.e. job/grant
           opportunities, learning hub etc.)

How do we make it worthwhile for CSOs to upload information?
           >> We encourage donor institutions to consider this
information when selecting partners and grantees
QuickTime™ and a
                                     decompressor
are needed to see this picture.

Survey
We prepared an initial survey but had to hold it back in light of the
information we received from the f2f interviews.

Based on the information we received, we are now redesigning the
concept and reviewing the questionnaire, which we will deliver in
   the upcoming week.

                                                             Keep posted for more…
