This document presents the general status ranks of wild species in the Northwest Territories (NWT) as determined by a collaborative process between 2000-2005. It summarizes the status of various groups of species including terrestrial mammals, marine mammals, birds, freshwater fish, amphibians and reptiles, and select plants. The ranks are intended to prioritize species for further study and conservation, raise awareness of species' sensitivities, and provide information to support decision making. Subsequent reports will be published every five years to incorporate new information from ongoing monitoring of NWT species.
