2. We make great wool products so sheep farmers do not
have to turn to crop farming and destroy the
grasslands that are critical to biodiversity in the
Kinangop Plateau in Kenya
Promoting Sustainable Conservation
in Kenya
3. Njabini Wool Crafters (NWC) is a Coo-op founded in
2004 by youth in Kinangop with the goal of conserving
the Kinangop Plateau Highland Grasslands in the Rift
Valley in Kenya. We do this by offering farmers an
alternative to crop farming. The grasslands are home to
rare species of birds including the globally threatened,
Sharpe’s Longclaw.
We support conservation by creating awareness amongst
the local community and offering economically viable
options for local sheep farmers so they do not destroy the
grasslands in order to plant crops that are perceived to
be more lucrative but that lead to destruction of the
grasslands.
By offering a marketplace for the sheep farmers’ wool, we
ensure that they earn a decent income and at the same
time, the products we create help to drive awareness of
our conservation efforts.
Who We Are
4. Our Story
We are committed to Supporting
Farmers
We purchase wool from farmers
in the Kinangop Plateau area in
Kenya’s Rift Valley and support
them by donating high quality
Corriedale Sheep to them to
improve their stock
Conservation is Key
By providing a market for
the farmers’ wool we ensure
that they do not convert
pastureland into cropland
thereby destroying the
natural habitat for Sharpe’s
Longclaw, an endangered
bird species
Sustainable Enterprise =
Sustainable Conservation
Growing into a self-sustaining
enterprise, helps provide
employment and training for
young people in the

we continue to contribute to

6. Our Operations are 100% Eco-Friendly
We have adopted a sustainable approach to managing our
operations so that we minimize our carbon footprint and
impact on the environment:
The production workshop is 100% solar-powered. Our
installed capacity generates energy to power a number
of electronic devices and provide lighting.
We only utilize 100% natural wool fiber procured from
farmers in the Kinangop area and our products have no
synthetic materials.
We use dyes extracted from locally grown dye plants like
Aloe, to color our wool products
We maintain a small vegetable garden at our offices,
which helps to provide food for people working at the
