Nutrition & Hydration Training Courses - With increasing concerns and media reports about the malnourishment of those who are in receipt of health and social care services, this is an essential course for nurses, carers and support workers involved in planning and providing care for vulnerable adults. Participants will have an increased understanding of the detrimental health effects that dehydration and malnutrition can have on an individual and will learn what measures they can put into place to ensure that their service users receive adequate hydration and nutrition.

With increasing concerns and media reports about the malnourishment of those who
are in receipt of health and social care services, this is an essential course for nurses,
carers and support workers involved in planning and providing care for vulnerable
adults. Participants will have an increased understanding of the detrimental health
effects that dehydration and malnutrition can have on an individual and will learn what
measures they can put into place to ensure that their service users receive adequate
hydration and nutrition.
Course Outline:
• Definition of nutrition, food, diet, balanced diet, malnutrition.
• What is a balanced diet (including the 7 major food groups)
• Hydration: short term effects and long term complications of dehydration; measures
you can take to ensure vulnerable adults remain adequately hydrated
• Malnutrition; under nutrition and over nutrition, short term effects and long term
complications of under and over nutrition
• Reasons why vulnerable adults are at risk of malnourishment
• MUST : what is it? How to carry out a MUST assessment
• Care planning for individuals at risk of becoming malnourished
• Inspection and monitoring of care services – what you need to know
