Nursing Software for Emergency Triage

Treatment priority in the ER may be subject to variation due to the different levels of patients’ illnesses.
We must give more importance to determine the risk of each patient in the moment they enter in the
ER, that is why the triage is critical. The NSET improves and helps to assess more accurately the
condition of a patient.

Materials and Methods
During the data collection period we included
patients who were treated in the ER. 28 patients in
total were excluded from the sample because some
of their data were missing. The final sample
involved 1772 patients.
Results
In the Emergency Room (ER) staff do not
attend patients on a first come, first served
basis, but according to the severity of a
patient’s condition. The Manchester Triage
System (MTS) was used to build a Nursing
Software for Emergency Triage (NSET) to be
used by triage nurses. Our hypothesis is that
the NSET is better than a triage system
without software (TWS) to categorize patients
at the ER.
