Classroom Policies
Policies regarding attendance, tardiness, examinations,
promotion, and written assignments are stated in the
School of Nursing Handbook. Students are responsible for
knowing these policies and adhering to them.
Honor Code
6. Truth has been identified by the profession as a value essential
to nursing. To underscore the importance of
truth, honesty, and accountability, students, faculty, and staff in
the Jacksonville University School of Nursing
adhere to the following honor code:
“I do not lie, cheat, steal, or condone those who do.” Egregious
academic misconduct will result in dismissal
from the School of Nursing.
Academic Integrity Misconduct Policy
Students are responsible for reading and adhering to the
Jacksonville University Academic Integrity
Misconduct Policy. This policy can be found in the Jacksonville

Disability-Related Information
Any student with a visible or nonvisible disability who requests
“reasonable accommodation” to his or her
condition should provide medical and/or psychological
documentation of the disability to the Student Life
Office and refer to the information in the JU catalog and

Discussion Board Participation (8 @ 20 points = 160 Points)
A requirement for the class is to post a scholarly, substantive
response utilizing APA (6th ed.) citations to
each week’s Discussion Board by Wednesday at 11:59 p.m. ET
and at least four insightful responses to your
classmates or instructor by Sunday at 11:59 p.m. ET for a
minimum total of five postings each week. The
insightful response must be substantive rather than just an “I
agree” response. Students’ online participation
and completion of assigned web-based activities will be tracked
by the instructor throughout the duration of
the course. Course participation points will be deducted for lack
of online participation. Only postings before
11:59 p.m. ET at the end of the week will earn points. Note:
There are no make-up provisions for a missed
8. discussion.
Prepare for the online classroom by completing all assigned
readings and/or activities. Participate in
discussions including building on what others contribute. Use
assigned readings and other appropriate,
relevant literature, together with personal leadership and
clinical experience in nursing as a basis for
discussion.
Discussion Board Assignments are asynchronous learning
activities which allow students to research and
present pertinent information to the entire class. Each student is
expected to post relevant information
obtained from peer reviewed journals, Internet sources that are
organizations, educational, or governmental
(.org/.edu/.gov). Commercial Internet sources are not
appropriate unless from reputable news organization,
i.e., New York Times, Washington Post, Newsweek, Time
Magazine, etc. Failure to participate or to
participate in a less than meaningful fashion will result in no
points awarded. Students will have points
allocated directly related to quality of participation.
14–20 Points – Posting of relevant researched information on
the specified topic, generating a thoughtful
9. discussion thread and contributing to the discussion at least
three times.
8–13 Points – Posting of relevant researched information on the
specified topic, generating a thoughtful
thread and contributing to discussion at least once.
7 Points – Minimal to no contribution to discussion.

Collaborative Ideal Interdisciplinary Team Paper and
Presentation (150 points)
This is a group assignment and involves both a written paper
and a PowerPoint presentation. Chose a nursing
issue that impacts your practice. The nursing issue may involve
a structure, process or outcome. Examples
might include an increased number of patient falls, long wait
times in the Emergency Department, high
staff turnover, poor medication compliance in an outpatient
setting. Your team is in charge of establishing a
21. committee to address this issue. Establish membership of your
committee, including which disciplines should
be represented and what individual responsibilities are. Provide
goals and objectives for your committee.
Provide a timeline for expected resolution of the issue and
dissolution of committee. Provide guidelines for
communication among committee members, including resolution
of conflict. Describe how you will implement
your solution to the issue addressed and measure the
effectiveness of your model. Students are expected to
interview nursing and other healthcare leaders at their facility
to help develop their committee. They are also
expected to attend interdisciplinary meetings to gain insight on
the workings of teams and apply what they
learned to their ideal team. Refer to chapter 30 of De Nisco
Student groups will submit one 8–10 page paper for their group.
Additionally students will develop a 15–20
slide PowerPoint presentation about their Team and present to
classmates. Students are expected to lead the
discussion about their ideal team and the issue it is working to
solve.
