Nagpur (Nagpur) is the second capital and the third most populous city of the
Indian state of Maharashtra (2.052 million). It is the 13th most populous
city and 13th largest urban agglomeration in India.
Nagpur is the seat of the annual winter session of the Maharashtra state assembly,
“ Vidhan Sabha”
It is famous for the Nagpur Orange and is known as the "Orange City" for being a
major trade centre of oranges cultivated in the region.
Nagpur is also called the "Tiger Capital of India as it connects many tiger reserves in
India to the world.

6. Toponymy
The river Nag flows through the city. B. R. Ambedkar claimed that both the

The word "pur" means "city" in many Indian languages. During British rule,

Futala Lake: Futala Lake is one of the lakes in Nagpur. Built by Bhosle
kings of Nagpur, the lake is known for its coloured fountains.
Ambazari Lake: Ambazari Lake is situated near the western border of
Nagpur. One of the 11 lakes in Nagpur, it is the largest lake in the city. The
beauty of the lake is complemented by a well-kept garden, which is
situated close to the lake.
Adasa: This small village is the site of the ancient Ganesh temple, which
houses a statue of the deity, believed to have been self-evolved. It is one
of the eight Ashta-Vinayaks in Vidarbha.

Dragon Palace Temple - The Temple which was inaugurated in 1999 had received
International and National Awards for its structural design. Many delegates from Japan,
Sri Lanka, Thailand, Burma, United States and United Kingdom visit the Temple which is
considered as a landmark of Indo-Japanese friendship
IT Parks - Satyam Computers already has bought 100 acres of land in the SEZ area.
Construction majors Shapoorji Pallonji and L&T Infocity have already initiated plans to
develop IT parks over an area of 150 acres in the SEZ area.

Sevagram is Hindi for "A village for service" and the name of a village in the
state of Maharashtra, India. It was the place of Mohandas Gandhi's
(Gandhiji's) ashram and his residence from 1936 to his death in 1948

Paunar Ashram
Paunar (Pravarpur) was the capital of Vakataka dynasty during the reign of King Pravarsena.
The sculptures of Ganga (Bhagirathi), Bharat-Bhet (Meeting of Rama and Bharat) and other
numerous sculptures depicting the scenes of Ramayana and Mahabharata can be seen at
Ashram. On left side of Wardha-Nagpur road, just at the end of Old bridge, there is a temple
of Lord Vishnu. The iconographic representation of Lord Vishnu and Brahma is really a
miracle.
19. Pleasant Climate
The climate of Nagpur follows a typical seasonal monsoon
weather pattern. The peak temperatures are usually reached in
May/June and can be as high as 48 C.
The onset of monsoon is usually from July. The season extends
up to September with the monsoons peaking during July and
August.
After monsoons, the average temperature varies between 27 C
and approx around 10 C right through December and
January, making it uniquely pleasant.
