NBAA came and went quickly this year for us in the Orlando area. That’s because
the Georgia World Congress Center and Dekalb-Peachtree Airport in Atlanta han-
dled this enormous event October 19-21st
. The National Business Aviation Associa-
tion Annual Meeting and Convention has become the 4th
largest convention in the
country. As attendees we are able to meet with many of our suppliers, industry
leaders, customers, and long time friends in a very short time.
I had an entire day on Tuesday the 19th
to become one of the 24,206 attendees and
visit the 1,083 exhibitors. Here is my story...
06:15-Tuesday October 19th
-I arrived at Showalter to join our fantastic pilot, Sandy
Showalter, and waited to load into the Aztec with Concierge Extraordinaire, Ed
Cavanaugh, Ruler of Refuelers, J.B. Angel, and the renowned Jenny Showalter. As
soon as we received information Whiskey on ATIS we were wheels up.
09:25-Touched down in PDK! We parked at Epps, stretched our legs and headed
straight to the NBAA Static Display to pick up our badges. From there we hopped
on the bus for the Convention Hall.
09:47-Stepped off the bus and into the Georgia World Congress Center . We
stopped at Starbuck’s and were wired for the show.
10:02-Finally in the exhibit hall! First thing on the agenda is to find the folks we
really need to talk to.
10:40-After making it half way through the convention hall and meeting many
friends, we headed back to the entrance dining restaurant to beat the lunch rush.
11:56-Back to the booths for another round!
2:20-Completing the entire 1st
part of the planned agenda, we headed back to the
bus to catch the Static Display.
2:45-Arrived at the amazing wonder that is the NBAA Static Display. With all the
hype around new aircraft and some of aviations finest machines, this is an aviator’s
fantasy land. I also ran into NBAA President, Ed Bolen here and was able to chat
with him for a few minutes.
4:30-Thanked the folks at Epps for their great service and headed south.
5:06-Departed VFR, turned east, and stayed below all the “heavies”. As we left At-
lanta Airspace we started to climb to cooler temperatures and reflected back on
“NBAA in a Day”. I not only had an exciting day, I had accomplished lots of busi-
ness. It is incredible how much business gets done at conventions and in just one
day! I look forward to the next one in Las Vegas…

Second place was given to the staff for their delicious pumpkin pie.

The October question was cor-
rectly answered by Nicholas
Musashe, Darrell Wagner, Kevin
McNamara, Paul Allen, Randy
White, Robert Braun and Eric Nor-
ber. The aircraft pictured is a
1968 Mohawk OV-1. Several of
you named one of the three
Showalter employees pictured as
well. The correct names are
David, Hugh and JB. Thanks for
answering!
The November question is:
At the 2010 NBAA Conven-
tion, which major GA
aircraft manufacturer
decided to forego a con-
vention center display
and instead housed their
entire static display
under a massive 37,000
sq. ft. tent?
