This document discusses the future of television in the context of the ubiquitous web. It presents three use cases: personalized semantic news, a personalized TV guide with adaptive advertising, and internet TV in the social web. It proposes web service-based solutions like vocabulary alignment, semantic annotations, and unified access to distributed multimedia content. The goals are to demonstrate personalized selection of TV content across devices using user modeling and context awareness. Viewers, providers and advertisers could all benefit from the proposed personalized and social television experiences enabled by emerging web technologies.
