Northern Ireland is a country located in the northeast of the island of Ireland that has experienced a long history of religious conflict between its Protestant and Catholic populations. The 1998 Good Friday Agreement aimed to end violence between unionists who want Northern Ireland to remain part of the UK and nationalists seeking reunification with Ireland. Northern Ireland has a population of around 1.84 million people, and its capital and largest city is Belfast.
