The document discusses the challenges faced by veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, including physical disabilities, PTSD, depression, substance abuse, homelessness, and increased risk of suicide. It then describes the services provided by Wounded Warrior Project, including benefits counseling, family support, education assistance, employment assistance, and their TRACK program - a residential college program for wounded veterans. The organization is seeking funding from the ShuttleWorth Foundation to expand the TRACK program and help more veterans overcome challenges in order to live successful civilian lives.

The goal of this organization is to provide group counceling support for children and adolescents to help them resolve grief issues over the death of loved ones.
The main challenge for this project was finding statistical data concerning bereaved children along with research articles discussing the negative results of unresolved grief in children, their family, and the community around them.

Combatting Senior Isolation with Volunteerism
Senior isolation is a social issue that many of our senior citizens face today. It is estimated that 40% of our senior population suffers from senior isolation. Senior isolation in the elderly has been linked to an increase in illnesses, mortality, depression, elder abuse and a higher incidence of the elderly needing long term care services. It is one of the largest risks to our aging senior’s health and well-being. Volunteer work can help combat senior isolation and have a positive impact on a senior’s health. Senior citizens make up 15.2 percent of the total population of the United States according to the 2016 census bureau and it is reported that by 2060 the number of senior citizens will double. Senior volunteer programs that promote involvement can assist in combating isolation and the negative health consequences while keeping our seniors healthy and active within their communities.
Senior Corps is an organization that currently engages roughly 220,000 older adults between the ages of 55 and above within America in service to their communities through its Foster Grandparent, Senior companion and RSVP programs according to Nationalservice.gov. Utilizing the strengths and assets of our seniors today not only keeps our seniors from isolation but also benefits the communities in which they live. The primary focus of Senior corps is to utilize the strengths, skills and attributes of seniors 55 and above to help tutor, mentor, care for and volunteer to meet the needs of others within their community while also having mutually positive benefits to the health and wellness of the aging senior population. Senior Corp programs not only improve the lives of those served but also the lives of the senior volunteers. Service learning opportunities within Senior Corps could produce beneficial outcomes for the American communities that Senior Corps volunteers, the partnering universities and the student service learners reside. The collegiate service learning students can play an instrumental role in increasing awareness with marketing strategies including recruitment events and informative meetings to promote participation, and enrollment into the programs. Creating and implementing marketing plans while utilizing their technology skills and social media platforms, collegiate service learners can assist Senior Corps in increasing the number of senior volunteers enrolled within each of the programs. Intergenerational learning can promote valuable relationships and partnerships that help bridge the generation gap. Service learners in intergeneration settings report “positive outcomes related to a better understanding of the older generation, enjoyment of interacting with the elders, appreciation of the life exp.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2. We, who have seen war, will never stop seeing it.
3. Since October 2001, approximately 1.6 million members of the Armed Forces have served in Iraq or Afghanistan. Over 300,000 of them have been identified as having varying degrees of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Over 30,000 have become permanently disabled due to a war related injury.
4. Many of these Veterans find it difficult to integrate themselves back into society. Those who now have a physical disability can become frustrated that their body is no longer able to do what it once did. For those suffering with PTSD, the wounds are not so obvious. Left untreated, they will begin to feel disconnected from their family, friends and society.
5. Whether they suffer from a somatic injury or a mental one, these Veterans are likely to experience depression, become quick to anger and violence and are at a higher risk to abuse drugs and alcohol. Veterans are also more likely than the general population to become homeless and lose contact with their families. And are twice as likely to commit suicide.
6. Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines come from all walks of life. These issues our Veterans face are not just specific to one community. They affect all communities across the United States. In 2003 a group of Veterans who had participated in previous military conflicts saw these issues begin to rise as a new generation returned from war.
7. These Veterans, still believing that you never leave a fallen man behind, decided to reach out and help those returning Veterans who were in need. Beginning with small inspired actions, this group formed an organization that would reach out and tell these heroes, “if you feel like you can’t walk, we are here to carry you”. They founded……..

9. Headquartered in Jacksonville Florida, Wounded Warrior Project has begun expanding across the country, recently opening offices in New York City, Washington DC and San Antonio. We are able provide aid to Veterans with the help of both monetary contributions, in-kind contributions and our fundraising efforts. 82% of monetary contributions go directly to our Veteran aid programs.
10. Our Mission To raise public awareness and enlist the public’s aid for the needs of severely injured service men and women, to help severely injured service members to aid and assist each other, and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet their needs
26. How The ShuttleWorth Foundation Can Help Like the ShuttleWorth Foundation we believe in finding fresh and innovative ideas. We believe that despite their injuries this generation of Veterans has the ability to change the world for the better. With the help of the ShuttleWorth Foundation we are looking to fund and expand a unique program that we have developed.
27. The TRACK Program TRACK is a residential college and vocational skills program for wounded warriors. TRACK is unique because the warriors attend classes as a group, with the ability to build new experiences with other wounded warriors. In addition, warriors receive individual academic, career, and health counseling, with extensive goal setting and peak performance training. Upon completion of TRACK, the warriors are prepared to be successful in college, vocational training, or a civilian job search. TRACK provides both an educational/vocational and financial foundation for future success in the business world
28. The TRACK Program TRACK prepares warriors to succeed when they proceed to a university or continue to a vocational training program. WWP feels that we must address the overall health and well-being of the warriors and prepare them for success in the classroom. The attention to the Mind, Body and Spirit of each warrior is critical to warrior's success. TRACK is the first education center in the nation specifically for wounded warriors with facilities located in Jacksonville, FL and San Antonio, TX. TRACK's one-year program gives warriors a jump-start on meeting educational goals with the full support of the WWP team. TRACK students enter as a team, or cohort, and continue through the program together, offering the ideal environment for students at all ability levels, including those who might not have been successful in traditional educational opportunities in the past.
29. The TRACK Program Participants learn to reduce stress, anxiety and depression, while improving their self image. TRACK is an approved Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Program (VR&E). The program pays all class fees, books, and a subsistence allowance.
30. TRACKS Goals To prevent Veterans from turning to drugs, alcohol or suicide by helping them become adept at balancing school and work, while maintaining an active lifestyle and teaching them how to reduce stress, anxiety and depression. To keep Veterans from becoming homeless by giving them valuable training in a civilian workforce environment.
31. "I was impressed with the innovation of the TRACK program. With a motivated set of students, and a dedicated staff, these troops have a plan for a quick recovery and reintegration in society. This is the kind of work that VA can and should do with interested groups such as Wounded Warrior Project. I want to emphasize how impressed I was with the total concept." - VA Deputy Secretary Mansfield “TRACK really concentrates on healing the Veteran holistically. They help you with counseling, physical fitness, physical therapy, college classes, training, etc. You are in classes with other Veterans like you. Your expenses are taken care of and you leave there ready to succeed. I am so excited, I couldn’t ask for more of a blessing.” -Danelea Kelly
32. TRACKS Progress Since opening our first facility in 2008, over 100 students have completed the TRACK Program In January of 2011 we opened our second facility with 16 students enrolled. Students who completed the TRACK program often found jobs with the companies that they completed externships with while enrolled.
33. But We Can Do Better Because we cover all cost’s for students we are forced to keep our class sizes limited. With your help we can increase the number of students we are able to enroll and open additional facilities in other parts of the country
34. Our vision, to cultivate the most successful, well-adjusted generation of wounded warriors in this nations history is possible.
35. Our Veteran population is rising rapidly and there are many challenges they will face. The breadth of these challenges cannot be solved with one simple solution.
36. Real solutions to those challenges require looking at it from multiple angles to find the best approach. Every contribution helps us to grow these programs and generate better ways to help our wounded warriors overcome the challenges that they will face.
